There are 10 mainline Mario Kart releases through Mario Kart World if Mario Kart 8 Deluxe counts separately from Mario Kart 8. That is a useful series count, not an official Nintendo total: the number changes if you also include arcade games, mobile releases, the RC-kart spin-off, or downloadable content.
What counts as a Mario Kart game?
Nintendo’s sources establish individual products and release details, but do not publish a complete official count of every Mario Kart release. The ten-game figure is a count of the recognizable mainline sequence, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe treated as a separate released game rather than just a port or edition of Mario Kart 8.
Broader totals depend on what is included: arcade titles, mobile games, physical-kart spin-offs, and re-releases can all change the answer. A secondary series reference once counted 16 titles using its own format categories, but it predates Mario Kart World and is not an official Nintendo total.
How did the mainline series reach 10 releases?
Nintendo identifies Super Mario Kart as the first game in the series; it launched in 1992. The latest dated release in Nintendo’s store listing is Mario Kart World, dated June 5, 2025.

Between those endpoints, the mainline count includes the numbered console and portable entries, as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as its own release. Counting that Deluxe release separately is what makes the mainline total 10 through World.
What is included beyond the 10 mainline releases?
- Arcade games: These are additional Mario Kart releases, but are not part of the ten-game mainline count.
- Mobile: Mario Kart Tour is another entry outside that count.
- Physical-kart spin-off: Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit uses remote-controlled karts and is also outside the mainline tally.
There is no single current all-format total established by the Nintendo sources cited here. To give a precise broader number, a list would need to name every included title and explain how it treats arcade, mobile, spin-off, and re-release categories.

Does the Booster Course Pass count as a separate game?
No. Nintendo describes the Booster Course Pass as add-on content for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, not a separate full game. It adds 48 courses across six waves released from March 18, 2022, through November 8, 2023. The base game is required to use the pass.
