1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a naturally spawning iron golem in Minecraft Bedrock, build a village with at least 20 beds, make sure every villager is linked to a bed, and ensure at least 75% of villagers worked during the previous in-game day. The detailed Bedrock mechanics guide also specifies at least 10 villagers, a valid spawn location near the village center, and keeping the village within simulation distance. If you only need one golem, you can build it directly instead.
Natural village spawning: the requirements
Mojang’s Bedrock 1.16.0 release notes state the core thresholds: a minimum of 20 beds, every villager having a bed, and at least 75% of villagers having worked during the past in-game day. The detailed village mechanics guide on the Minecraft Wiki adds a minimum of 10 villagers, spawn-location and simulation-distance details.
- At least 20 beds: Each villager must have a bed. Beds that villagers have not successfully linked to do not meet the stated condition.
- At least 10 villagers: This minimum is specified by the community-maintained Bedrock mechanics guide, not by the cited Bedrock 1.16.0 release notes.
- Villagers must work: At least 75% need to have worked at their workstations during the previous in-game day. Make sure villagers can access their workstations and allow time for the work period; Mojang’s release notes do not detail every workstation-linking edge case.
- Room to spawn: Keep open, suitable space near the village center. The mechanics guide describes a 17×13×17 spawn-attempt volume, extending eight blocks horizontally and six vertically from the center. A bell or a bed pillow can serve as a center reference in its description. Mojang’s Bedrock 1.20.40 update notes confirm that natural golems cannot spawn in a two-block-high space where they would suffocate.
- Stay within simulation distance: The community guide says the village must be in the player’s simulation-distance volume for natural spawning.
How many golems can a village spawn?
Mojang’s Bedrock 1.16.0 notes set the natural-spawn limit at one golem for every 10 villagers. The detailed mechanics guide describes the resulting thresholds as one golem for 10 villagers, two for 20, and three for 30. This is a limit on natural village spawning; it does not prevent you from manually building a golem.
Troubleshoot a village that will not spawn a golem
- Verify bed links. Count at least 20 beds and check that every villager has claimed one, rather than simply adding unclaimed beds.
- Check the work requirement. Confirm villagers can reach their workstations, then allow a work period to pass so at least 75% have worked that day.
- Clear valid spawn space. Make room near the village center, including locations with enough height; two-block-high spaces that cause suffocation are excluded from natural spawning.
- Keep the village in range. Remain close enough for it to be within simulation distance.
- Check the golem count against the population. If the village already has as many naturally spawned golems as its villager ratio permits, another will not spawn until the ratio allows it.
Do not assume Java Edition’s gossip or panic conditions apply here. Mojang’s cited Bedrock notes list Bedrock’s own bed and work thresholds; the cited gossip notes are for a Java snapshot, not Bedrock.

Build an iron golem directly instead
If the goal is simply to get a golem now, the official Minecraft “Meet the Iron Golem” guide says to arrange four iron blocks in a T shape and place a carved pumpkin or jack o’lantern on top. This creates a golem directly, without the natural village-spawning requirements.
Golems protect villagers, but they can become hostile if they perceive you as a danger. The official guide gives harming a nearby villager as an example of behavior that can provoke an attack.
