You can’t install Iris on Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Iris is a shader mod for Minecraft: Java Edition, and the Iris project says it does not run on Bedrock. Bedrock players can instead import compatible Add-Ons or resource packs and activate them for a world.
Why Iris does not work on Bedrock
Iris describes itself as an open-source shader mod for Minecraft: Java Edition. Its installer and mod-loader directions are for Java, not Bedrock. The Iris project FAQ explicitly says Iris does not run on Bedrock Edition.
The project lists support for Minecraft 1.16.5 and higher, Fabric on 1.16.5 and higher, and NeoForge on 1.21.1 and higher; Forge is not supported. Those version and loader requirements apply only if you meant Java Edition. Iris also says it ships with Sodium and is available through its installer and the Modrinth and CurseForge listings. None of those options installs Iris on Bedrock.
What to use on Bedrock instead
Look for an Add-On or resource pack explicitly made for your Bedrock platform and version. Microsoft’s Add-On guide documents importing Add-Ons and activating resource or behavior packs. A Bedrock pack is a separate customization path; importing one does not install Iris or guarantee effects equivalent to Iris shaders.

Import a pack on Windows
- Download a Bedrock-compatible pack from a source you trust, and check that it supports your platform and version.
- For a pack supplied as a
.mcpackfile, open the file. Microsoft’s guide says this should import it into Minecraft on Windows. - In Minecraft, select the pack for the relevant world in its Resource Pack or Behavior Pack settings, as appropriate.
Microsoft also documents importing .mcworld files, which contain worlds. Import behavior and available options can differ by platform, so follow the instructions for your device and the pack you downloaded.
Activate a pack for a world
For an existing world, Minecraft Help describes this route: select Play, choose the pencil icon beside the world, open Resource packs or Behavior packs, and activate the pack from Available. Then start the world. The Minecraft Help instructions also cover activating Add-Ons for a new world and a Realm; for a Realm, select its world slot, edit it, and activate the pack there.

Windows players looking for visual changes
The Iris FAQ points Windows users toward BetterRTX, but that mention is not an installation guide or a compatibility guarantee. Check BetterRTX’s current documentation for requirements and supported setups before trying it. The Iris page does not establish whether it works with your specific Bedrock build or device.
