Follow its objectives in order: the quest sends you between Ormus, Nahantu activities, the Kurast Undercity, the Tree of Whispers, a Helltide, and the Pit of the Artificers. This walkthrough follows Wowhead’s guide, last updated April 14, 2025; Blizzard’s reviewed patch notes document fixes to several quest issues but do not establish whether the 2026 Lord of Hatred release changed the live sequence. If your journal differs, use its current objective as the authority.
Before you start
Complete the Vessel of Hatred campaign through Presaging Fate. Wowhead’s campaign questline guide says this completes the campaign and automatically grants Deeds of a Champion. The expansion requires purchase of Vessel of Hatred, according to Blizzard’s product information.

The objective sequence below is based on the guide’s April 14, 2025 update. The sources cited here do not confirm whether Lord of Hatred, released in 2026, changed the current quest flow. Check your in-game journal if an objective or location does not match.
Complete the quest objectives in order
- Speak with Kalien, Messenger of Ormus. Start the quest by talking to Kalien.
- Speak with Ormus. Follow Kalien’s instruction and report to Ormus.
- Conquer the Kichuk Stronghold. Complete the Stronghold objective.
- Complete the Tenets of Depravity questline. Follow the quest journal’s direction for this Nahantu questline.
- Complete dungeons in Nahantu. Clear the required dungeons, using the journal to track progress.
- Return to Ormus. Speak with him once the Stronghold, questline, and dungeon objectives are done.
- Speak to Sihek. Continue the conversation objective and follow the quest pin.
- Slay the Terror of Five Hills in the Kurast Undercity. This is the required target. Completing the current Undercity run afterward is marked optional by the guide; you can exit once you have killed the target.
- Speak to Ormus. Return after the Undercity objective.
- Speak with the Tree of Whispers. Interact with the Tree to activate the next objective.
- Gain Grim Favor in Nahantu and claim a Tree reward. Earn the required Grim Favors in Nahantu, then claim a reward from the Tree of Whispers.
- Speak with Ormus. Return after claiming the reward.
- Travel to a Helltide region, open Tortured Gifts, and slay a Blood Maiden. The Helltide must still be active when you kill her for this quest objective. Blizzard previously fixed a bug where a Blood Maiden killed after the Helltide ended did not advance the quest.
- Speak with Ormus. Return after completing the Helltide objective.
- Complete Tier 20 in the Pit of the Artificers. Finish the Tier 20 requirement.
- Speak with Ormus for your quest rewards. This completes the quest.
What rewards does Deeds of a Champion give?
Wowhead’s quest guide lists Experience, Gold, and six Legendary items:

The guide identifies five of the six Legendaries as granting the Garb of Baleful Intent appearance when salvaged. It does not say that all six unlock the appearance.

Blizzard’s official Diablo IV patch notes record historical fixes for several Deeds of a Champion problems: a Blood Maiden killed after a Helltide ended could fail to count; the Tree of Whispers reward objective could appear complete as soon as the quest began; an objective could be duplicated; and the Speak to Sihek quest pin could point to the wrong place. These records describe fixes, not confirmation that the same issues remain active.

- Read the current journal objective carefully and confirm the required activity is active. For the Blood Maiden step, do not wait until the Helltide has ended.
- If the Sihek marker points somewhere unexpected, check the objective text rather than relying on the pin alone.
- If progress remains blocked, consult current official patch notes or Blizzard support before repeating a lengthy activity.
