The quickest supported way to get the Rogue’s Carnage Rune in WoW Classic: Season of Discovery is to buy it from a Rune Broker in a major city for your faction. To discover it the original way, open the Abandoned Cache at the top of the tower in Dreadmaul Hold, Blasted Lands, with 225 Lockpicking, then defeat the level 46 enemy that appears.
Choose a route to get Carnage
| Route | What to do | Requirement or caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Rune Broker | Buy the rune from a broker in a major city for your faction. | Price is not stated in the cited Wowhead guide. Learning a rune from a vendor item may affect some rune discoveries or related quests. |
| Original discovery | Open the Abandoned Cache atop the Dreadmaul Hold tower in the Blasted Lands, then defeat the enemy it spawns. | Requires 225 Lockpicking; Wowhead lists level 45 as the minimum recommended level. |
Wowhead’s live Season of Discovery guide, which labels its content Patch 1.15.8, lists both methods. Its displayed update date is April 6, 2024, so check in-game if a later patch has changed Rune Broker availability or the discovery steps. Wowhead’s Carnage Rune guide
Buy Carnage from a Rune Broker
Wowhead says Rune Brokers in each race’s main city sell Season of Discovery class runes and skill books. The listed cities are:
- Alliance: Darnassus, Ironforge, or Stormwind.
- Horde: Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, or Undercity.
The guide does not state Carnage’s price. It also cautions that learning a rune from a vendor item may affect some discoveries or rune-related quests; it does not say this happens to every player or every quest. See Wowhead’s Rogue rune overview for that caveat.

Discover Carnage at Dreadmaul Hold
- Travel to Dreadmaul Hold in the Blasted Lands, around 45.3, 16.4.
- Climb the tower and locate the Abandoned Cache at the top.
- Open the cache with 225 Lockpicking.
- Defeat the level 46 Murderous Lost One that appears and loot the Rune of Carnage.
Wowhead lists level 45 as the minimum recommended level for the route. Icy Veins independently confirms the tower, Lockpicking requirement, enemy level, and loot method: Season of Discovery Rogue rune locations.
If you do not have 225 Lockpicking
Use the Rune Broker route instead. The cited guides establish that opening the cache requires 225 Lockpicking, but do not verify whether another player can open it for you, so do not count on assistance as a workaround.

What the Carnage Rune does
Carnage is a Rogue rune for the bracer slot. Blizzard’s March 26, 2024 Phase 3 forum post gives its effect as: “Your abilities deal 20% increased damage to targets afflicted by one of your Bleed effects.” Blizzard’s Rogue Runes and Poisons: Phase 3 post Icy Veins also lists the 20% effect. Treat this as the documented description; later balance updates may change game mechanics.
