This guide covers the Demon Prince in ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN’s The Forsaken Hollows DLC—not the similarly named boss in Dark Souls III. The encounter is reported as the Night 2 boss of the Balancers Expedition. To reach it, unlock Balancers, defeat Demon in Pain and Demon from Below on Night 1, and prepare for the Prince variant determined by which demon you kill last.

How to unlock the Demon Prince encounter

The Demon Prince is part of the Balancers Expedition in The Forsaken Hollows. Bandai Namco’s December 2, 2025 announcement describes the DLC as adding two Nightfarers, two bosses, and one Shifting Earth: The Forsaken Hollows DLC announcement. The DLC is separate store content from the base game on Steam, which describes Nightreign as a standalone adventure set in the Elden Ring universe: ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN on Steam.

Bandai Namco’s December 2, 2025 access instructions require defeating at least two main-game bosses, including Tricephalos and one other boss, and making Scholar and Undertaker playable. After that, visit the chapel behind the Small Jar Merchant to access Balancers. Scholar and Undertaker become available after defeating Tricephalos. The publisher’s instructions also explain DLC activation for PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam.

What happens before the Demon Prince

The reported encounter sequence spans two nights of the Balancers Expedition. On Night 1, fight Demon in Pain and Demon from Below. The guide material says the Demon Prince appears on Night 2 only if both demons were defeated during Night 1; it also says the demon killed last determines which version of the Prince appears.

Expedition stage Encounter What to know
Night 1 Demon in Pain and Demon from Below Defeat both to trigger the reported Night 2 Demon Prince encounter.
Night 2 Demon Prince The demon killed last on Night 1 determines the Prince version, according to the available guide material.

The available sources support that variant distinction, but not a complete move-by-move comparison or different counters for each version. Treat the identity of the last demon killed as the supported way to understand which Prince appears, rather than assuming a particular version has a specific weakness.

How to fight the Demon Prince

Available guide excerpts offer a handful of high-level tactics rather than a complete attack list or tested build. Use them as general positioning and survival advice:

  • Build fire-damage negation. The guide recommends preparing to reduce fire damage; it does not specify a particular item, relic, or numerical target.
  • Stay close during fireball attacks. The excerpt advises close positioning when the Prince uses fireballs.
  • Move behind the boss when possible. Attacking from behind is recommended as an opportunity to avoid pressure and deal damage.
  • Use an Ultimate Skill against the magma laser. The guide says an Ultimate Skill can cancel this attack, making it a potential interruption tool.

These tips should not be read as an exhaustive phase guide: detailed attack timings, animation cues, and a full move list are not established by the accessible material. Nor does it establish a best Nightfarer, weapon, relic loadout, damage-type ranking, or solo strategy. Choose your character and equipment based on what you can reliably use while applying the supported fire-negation and positioning advice.

What is known about the two Demon Prince versions

The supported difference is determined by the Night 1 kill order: the last of Demon in Pain or Demon from Below to fall determines which Demon Prince version appears on Night 2. The available material does not substantiate a detailed comparison of their attacks, weaknesses, or best counters, so avoid treating one version as easier or recommending a different build without further evidence.

Sources and confidence

The DLC requirements and content description come from Bandai Namco. The encounter sequence and tactical suggestions come from surfaced guide excerpts that could not be opened for full verification; those details are less certain than the publisher’s access information. The encounter is in Nightreign, not the Dark Souls III boss encounter that shares its name.
