Then compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet and reduce home-network traffic. These steps help identify the cause; they cannot guarantee lower ping if the problem is server distance, ISP routing, or congestion outside your home.
First, identify what is going wrong
High ping means data is taking longer to reach its destination. Packet loss means some information is not making the trip. Either can contribute to an unstable match, but they are different symptoms and may need different troubleshooting. Bungie’s connection guidance explains the distinction and describes common network causes.

- High in-match delay: Your actions and the game’s response feel delayed.
- Rubber-banding or packet loss: Movement or other updates may arrive inconsistently.
- Login failure: You cannot connect to the game, even if ordinary websites load. This has a separate proxy-settings check below.
Run Marvel Rivals’ Network Delay Test
Marvel Rivals includes a network diagnostic tool for investigating significant delays during matches. Its official Guide to Network Analysis Tool Usage, published January 9, 2025, directs players to use Network Delay Test and choose nodes they connect to frequently or regions near their location.
- Open the folder where Marvel Rivals is installed.
- Launch
CapturePro.exe. - Select Network Delay Test and choose frequently used nodes or regions close to you.
- Let the test run for about 20 seconds, or leave it running while you play and stop it when a noticeable delay occurs.
- If the test finds severe latency, send the resulting
tr_results_...zipfile through the support path specified in the official guide.
The roughly 20-second period is the guide’s operational instruction, not a target ping or a performance benchmark. The accessible guide does not provide a definitive current list of server-node names, so use the options shown by your game and the nodes or regions relevant to your play.

Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
If you play over Wi-Fi, connect the same device to your router with Ethernet and compare under similar conditions: same game mode, similar time of day, and the same test nodes where possible. If the connection becomes more stable over Ethernet, that points toward a local wireless issue such as signal weakness or interference. It is a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed fix: a cable cannot shorten the route to a distant server or correct congestion elsewhere on the network.
Reduce competing network traffic
Pause large downloads and reduce other heavy activity on your home network, then rerun the test or compare a match. This helps check whether local congestion is contributing. If delay or packet loss persists across wired and wireless connections, the cause may be outside your home, including ISP or broader network congestion. Record when it happens and whether it affects multiple nodes; that evidence can help when contacting your ISP or Marvel Rivals support.

If you cannot log in, check Windows proxy settings
NetEase documents a proxy check for a specific pattern: websites load normally, but Marvel Rivals will not log in. This is not general advice that VPNs lower ping; it is a login-failure troubleshooting step.
- Open Command Prompt and run
netsh winhttp show proxyto inspect the WinHTTP proxy configuration. - If a proxy is detected, NetEase’s proxy-settings guide for game login failures documents running
netsh winhttp reset proxy. - Restart and retry as directed by the guide. If login still fails, contact support.
Use the results to choose your next step

Do not assume that a router or modem upgrade will solve the problem without evidence of faulty or outdated local equipment. When local tests do not change the result, the cause may lie beyond the hardware in your home.
