Brokers are in every race’s starting zone and every major city. If you want to follow the original discovery route, get Prophecy of a Desecrated Citadel from enemies in your Priest’s starting zone and learn it with two Meditation buffs active.
Buy Homunculi from a Rune Broker
- Visit a Rune Broker in a race’s starting zone or a major city.
- Buy the Homunculi rune or its rune-related discovery item for one copper, then use the item if needed to learn the rune. Blizzard’s Phase 7 announcement describes the vendors and their inventory: Rune Brokers in Season of Discovery Phase 7.
Blizzard added Rune Brokers to every starting area in a December 17, 2024 update, making class runes accessible from level 1. The same update gives a general caveat: some world discoveries may not function properly if you learn the related ability from a vendor-purchased item. It does not identify Homunculi as affected. See the December 17, 2024 hotfix entry.
Use the original discovery route
The original method starts with Prophecy of a Desecrated Citadel, which drops from enemies in Priest starting zones. The following drop locations and enemies are listed in Wowhead’s Priest rune guide:
| Starting zone | Enemies to look for |
|---|---|
| Dun Morogh | Frostmane Seer and Frostmane Shadowcaster near Shimmer Ridge |
| Elwynn Forest | Defias Rogue Wizard on the Stonecairn Lake island |
| Teldrassil | Shadow Sprite, Rascal Sprite, Vicious Grell, and Dark Sprite in Fel Rock Cave |
| Durotar | Voodoo Troll, Hexed Troll, Razormane Dustrunner, and Dustwind Storm Witch in various parts of the zone |
| Tirisfal Glades | Scarlet Warrior and Scarlet Missionary near Solliden Farmstead |
Learn the item with two Meditation buffs
The item-based discovery requires two Meditation buffs to learn the rune. Another Priest can share Meditation buffs using /pray. This condition applies to the original discovery method; buying from a Rune Broker is the simpler alternative.

What Homunculi does
Homunculi is a Priest rune for the pants (legs) slot. It summons three miniature copies that attack your target; their hits reduce the target’s attack speed, attack power, and armor. Warcraft Wiki lists a 40-yard range and a two-minute cooldown, but ability details can change, so check the in-game tooltip for the current values: Warcraft Wiki: Homunculi.
