You can’t add money directly to a PS5 child account because it has no separate PlayStation Store wallet. Instead, the family manager funds their own adult wallet and sets a monthly spending limit for the child. Eligible purchases then use the adult wallet, subject to that limit.
Set a monthly spending limit on PS5
- Sign in on the PS5 as the family manager, or as a parent or guardian with permission to manage the child.
- Open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.
- Select the child, then choose Parental Controls > Monthly Spending Limit.
- Set the amount the child may spend each month. Sony sets this limit to zero by default, so change it before the child tries to make a purchase that requires spending. Sony’s PS5 spending-limit instructions
The limit controls how much the child can spend from the family manager’s wallet; it does not create a wallet for the child.

Top up the family manager’s wallet
If the adult wallet does not have enough funds, add money to the family manager’s account using an accepted payment method or a PlayStation Store gift card. Sony says wallet funds are used first and that money added to a wallet cannot be refunded. Sony’s wallet-funding guidance
Check the payment and gift-card rules for the adult account’s country or region before choosing how to top up. Accepted payment methods and gift-card availability vary by region. Sony’s regional payment-method information

Change the limit online or in the PS Family app
You can also manage the limit through Sony’s web account tools: sign in to Account Management, open Family Management, select the child, choose Edit, and adjust Monthly Spending Limit. Sony also supports managing a child’s spending limit in the PS Family app. Menu labels and layout may differ by region or app version. Sony’s PS Family app guidance

Sony’s current guidance describes children’s accounts as child accounts within a family. It does not establish that every older sub-account setup uses the same menus. If the account does not appear as a child under Family Management, use Account Management or contact PlayStation Support for help with that account rather than looking for an Add Funds option on the child profile.
