You can get V-Bucks by earning them through Fortnite’s Free Pass or Battle Pass, buying them through Epic’s official channels, subscribing to Fortnite Crew, or purchasing an eligible Starter or Quest Pack. For a gift, use a physical card from an authorized retailer. Avoid external sites promising free V-Bucks: Epic warns that suspicious offers may put your account or money at risk.
This guide reflects Epic Games Support information accessed October 8, 2026. The title’s reference to 2023 is out of date: seasonal rewards, offers, prices, and card availability can change, so check the current details in your region before buying.

Can you earn V-Bucks for free?
Yes. Epic says all players have access to the Free Pass each season, and players can earn V-Bucks by progressing through Battle Pass levels. You do not have to buy the optional Battle Pass to use the Free Pass route. The exact rewards depend on the active season; Epic’s support guidance does not give a universal current total.
Buying the Battle Pass is optional. It also offers V-Bucks through progression, but the amount and rewards are seasonal. Check the current Battle Pass details in Fortnite before deciding whether its cost and rewards suit you; do not assume it guarantees a profit or a fixed number of V-Bucks. How do V-Bucks cards and gift cards work?
Epic says Fortnite Gift Cards are replacing V-Bucks cards, although both may be available during a regional rollout. Read the card label before redeeming: a Fortnite Gift Card adds funds to your Epic account balance and uses a different redemption process from a V-Bucks card. Follow the redemption instructions for the specific card, make sure you are using the intended Epic account, and keep the receipt until redemption is complete. See Epic’s card guidance for details.

Epic says V-Bucks cannot be purchased as a gift through the Epic online store, and V-Bucks cannot be sent as an in-game gift. In-game gifting also excludes Fortnite packs containing V-Bucks. For a gift, Epic directs buyers to a physical card from a participating retailer. Check regional redemption terms before buying. Will purchased V-Bucks work on every platform?
Not always. Epic says V-Bucks purchased on Nintendo Switch are not shared with other platforms. By contrast, V-Bucks earned through Fortnite Passes, Quest Packs, or Save the World are shared across platforms, according to Epic’s support guidance. How can you avoid fake free V-Bucks offers?
Epic’s warning is direct: “Don’t trust any suspicious offers for Epic Games products like free titles or V-Bucks on external sites.” It says genuine offers appear through the Epic Games Store, official Epic Games websites, or official social media channels. Read Epic’s warning about free-V-Bucks websites.
Epic says it does not partner with third-party V-Bucks sellers. An unauthorized seller may take payment without delivering currency or compromise your account; Epic says it cannot refund or grant V-Bucks for such purchases. Do not enter your Epic login details on an external generator, giveaway, or seller site. Use a unique password and enable two-factor authentication as recommended in Epic’s account security guidance.
