For ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA), check the installed mods in the game’s mod interface and use Update if a mod is marked “out of date.” A June 2024 Steam community report gives this route: Create/Resume Game → Mod Settings → Get Mods → Installed Mods. Menu labels can change between game versions, so treat that as reported guidance, not a guaranteed current path. If the mod is required by a server, joining may prompt you to install it; if the server itself has an old copy, ask its owner to refresh it.
Update an installed mod in ASA
- Launch ASA and open the game’s Mods List or mod-management screen.
- Go to the installed-mods listing. The June 15–16, 2024 Steam discussion reports that a mod with an available update may be marked out of date.
- Select the marked mod and choose Update, if that action is available.
- Wait for the download to finish before starting or rejoining the game.
The Steam discussion’s more specific reported path is Create/Resume Game → Mod Settings → Get Mods → Installed Mods, followed by selecting the mod and using the top-right Update button. If the mod is needed for a multiplayer server
Try joining the server. CurseForge’s ASA guide says the game presents the server’s required mods and lets you install them. CurseForge’s in-game installation guide.
If the mod remains stale for everyone, contact the server owner. Community troubleshooting suggests restarting the server so it fetches the latest mod version; a community server guide also says listed mods update at server startup. These are not official guarantees, so the owner should verify that the server has refreshed its mod files. Steam Community discussion · modcommunity server guide.

When updating does not resolve the problem
- Only your client is affected: try the in-game update first. A Steam reply suggests uninstalling the mod, exiting the game, then reinstalling it, but this is anecdotal advice rather than an official repair procedure. Steam Community discussion.
- The server and several players are affected: ask the server owner to check and refresh the server-side mod copy.
- The mod installs but behaves incorrectly: an installed mod behaving badly does not, by itself, prove that its files are outdated. Ask the server admin or mod author to confirm the expected version and configuration before deleting local folders.
Use the right mod manager for your ARK edition
This procedure is for ARK: Survival Ascended. Studio Wildcard describes ASA’s in-game mod browser as the way to access its custom content. Studio Wildcard Support. CurseForge also states that ASA is not supported in its desktop app: install and manage ASA mods through the game instead. CurseForge support. These steps are not instructions for ARK: Survival Evolved, which has a separate Steam Workshop workflow.
There is no established universal automatic-update schedule in these sources. Check the installed-mod list and use the in-game update action when it appears rather than assuming every mod will update on launch.
