In Cyberpunk 2077, use the inventory to review the gear and items V is carrying; the backpack includes items such as weapon mods. The stash is separate from carried inventory, and the apartment stash wall displays Iconic weapons. Since Update 2.0, item tiers, crafting, upgrades, and the role of clothing have changed substantially, so older inventory advice may no longer apply.
What changed with Update 2.0?
CD PROJEKT RED’s Update 2.0 notes describe a major overhaul for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Existing saves can continue after the update, though the studio recommended starting a new playthrough to experience the extensive changes.
The update introduced Carrying Capacity Shards and changed weapon mods, item tiers, crafting, and upgrading. Obsolete weapon mods were moved into the backpack as new random mods, while installed weapon mods became irreplaceable. You can preview weapons and clothing in the inventory. The apartment stash wall was expanded to display all Iconic weapons from the base game; that display detail does not establish every rule for stash storage.
How do item tiers and level availability work?
The old Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary labels were replaced by Tier 1 through Tier 5++, with availability generally scaling to V’s level. CD PROJEKT RED’s tier guidance gives these thresholds:

These are broad availability thresholds, not a guarantee that every drop matches V’s level: the support page cautions that weapons below or above the expected tier can still appear.
How do crafting and upgrades work?
Crafting and upgrading use one type of component rather than the multiple component types used before the overhaul. CD PROJEKT RED’s crafting and upgrading guidance explains what you need:

- Crafting: You need a Crafting Spec and components. Specs can be looted or purchased; components can be looted or recovered by dismantling items of the corresponding tier.
- Iconic weapons: These can be upgraded in the Crafting menu if you have the required components. Each upgrade raises the weapon’s tier.
- Other weapons: Apart from cyberware, Iconic weapons are the only items that can be upgraded.
- Cyberware: Upgrades are handled at ripperdocs and require components matching the cyberware’s quality.
When deciding whether to keep or dismantle gear, consider its tier, whether it is Iconic and upgradeable, and the components it may yield. A standard weapon is not upgradeable under the post-2.0 rules, while an Iconic weapon may be worth retaining for later upgrades.
What do clothing, armor, and cyberware do?
Update 2.0 moved most armor stats from clothing to cyberware, making clothing primarily cosmetic. Some clothing still grants bonuses or a smaller armor benefit, so check an individual item rather than assuming every garment is purely visual. Cyberware Capacity determines how much cyberware V can equip. The Edgerunner perk allows V to exceed that capacity, but doing so comes at a cost to health. When comparing implants, weigh each implant’s effect against its capacity cost and V’s available capacity.

The official material cited here does not specify a numeric carry limit or the complete weight calculation. It also does not establish whether stash capacity is unlimited or list every stash access location, so avoid relying on a specific number or assuming all stash rules from the wall display.

What should you compare when sorting gear?
- For weapons: Check the item’s tier and V’s level, then note whether it is Iconic and eligible for upgrades.
- For dismantling: Consider the corresponding-tier components you can recover, alongside whether you want to keep the item.
- For armor: Look at cyberware first, but inspect clothing for any remaining bonus or armor effect.
- For cyberware: Compare an implant’s effect with its Cyberware Capacity cost and the capacity V has available.
