If Lake Kingdom was first
- Travel to the Courtyard checkpoint in Lake Kingdom.
- Find the small pool beside the checkpoint and dive down to its deep end.
- Enter the warp painting there. It takes Mario back to Sand Kingdom, where the Moon is awarded.
If Wooded Kingdom was first
- Travel to the Forest Charging Station checkpoint in Wooded Kingdom.
- Throw Cappy at the scarecrow in one of the charging machines to begin the platform challenge.
- Climb the platforms to the top. From the top platform, backflip onto the scenery above to reach the painting.
- Enter the painting to return to Sand Kingdom and collect the Moon.
