Ask the owner to invite the other player by gamertag or send you an active Bedrock invite link to share with them. The steps below are for Bedrock Edition; Java Edition’s member-invitation workflow is not covered by the official guides cited here.
Can a Realm member invite someone else?
The supported Bedrock workflow puts invite management in the Realm owner’s hands. Minecraft’s current instructions explain how an owner creates invite links, while its Realms overview describes inviting friends by gamertag. The official guides do not document an ordinary member permission to create new invitations. Ask the owner to invite your friend or provide an active link; don’t assume that membership alone lets you issue an invitation.
An existing member can pass along an active share link if the owner approves. Minecraft says anyone holding an active Bedrock link can join, so treat it like an access credential rather than posting it publicly. Minecraft’s Bedrock invite-link guide explains the owner’s link controls.
Which invitation method should the owner use?
| Method | Who acts | When it fits | Access control |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invite by gamertag | The Realm owner | When the owner knows the player’s gamertag or has them on their friends list. | The owner invites the intended player directly. Minecraft’s overview does not give detailed menu steps for this method. |
| Share link | The Realm owner creates the link; the owner or an approved member can pass along an active link. | Useful when the player is not yet on the owner’s friends list. | Anyone holding an active link can join. The owner can disable or remove a link and set an expiration. |
The owner can create a link in Bedrock by opening Play > Realms, selecting the Realm and Realm Hub, then going to Community > Members > Manage Realm Members > Invite Links > Add new invite link. Adjust the link settings, copy it, and share it privately. A second official guide gives the shorter route Play > Edit beside the Realm, then Members > Share Link. Labels can differ by version or screen. See Minecraft Help’s current link-management instructions.

How does the invited player join a Bedrock Realm?
The invited player needs Bedrock Edition to join a Bedrock Realm. Console and mobile players also need a Microsoft account, according to Minecraft’s multiplayer requirements. Minecraft offers two acceptance routes:
Accept through the Inbox
- Open Minecraft and select the Inbox bell beside Profile.
- Open Invites and accept the Realm invitation.
Join with a link
- Select Play > Realms > + Add/join Realm > Join an existing Realm.
- Enter the invite link and select Join.
These steps come from Minecraft’s Bedrock invitation guide. Once accepted, the Realm should appear in the Realms menu for future sessions.

What if the invitation or link does not work?
- Check the link with the owner. Ask them to confirm it is still active and has not expired or been removed.
- Check the edition. A Bedrock Realm requires Bedrock Edition; a player on a different edition cannot use these Bedrock joining steps.
- Check the account. Sign in to the appropriate Microsoft account where required, including on console and mobile.
- Ask for a fresh invitation. The owner can create a new link or invite the intended player by gamertag.
The owner can disable a link temporarily, remove it, or configure an expiration. Minecraft’s older 2017 explanation of invite links says refreshing a link prevents newcomers from using the old one, while people already added to the whitelist remain. Because that article is dated, use the current Help page for interface instructions.

No. Minecraft says invited members do not need their own Realms subscription. Friends can play an active world even when its owner is offline, as described on the Realms overview.
