For a Character Event Wish, budget 14,400 Primogems from zero pity to reach a 5-star of any kind, or up to 28,800 Primogems from zero pity to guarantee the featured 5-star character. Those are worst-case budgets, not predictions: you may get a 5-star sooner, and the featured character may arrive on the first 5-star.
How many Primogems guarantee a 5-star?
A wish costs 160 Primogems. Character Event Wish has a 90-wish hard-pity ceiling for a 5-star, so the maximum from zero pity to any 5-star is 90 × 160 = 14,400 Primogems. Pity resets when a 5-star appears.
To guarantee the featured character from zero pity, plan for as many as 180 wishes: the first 5-star could be non-featured, after which the next 5-star is guaranteed to be promotional. That worst case is 180 × 160 = 28,800 Primogems. HoYoverse’s Capturing Radiance explanation says the consolidated chance that a 5-star character on a Character Event Wish is promotional is 55%; this improves the odds but does not reduce the safe worst-case budget.
Calculate your budget from current pity
Multiply the number of wishes remaining to the relevant guarantee by 160. For the next 5-star, subtract your current Character Event Wish pity from 90. If the next 5-star is not already guaranteed featured, reserve enough for a second 90-wish cycle as well.

| Situation | Maximum wishes remaining | Primogems at 160 per wish |
|---|---|---|
| Any 5-star, starting at 0 pity | 90 | 14,400 |
| Any 5-star, starting at 30 pity | 60 | 9,600 |
| Featured character, 0 pity and not guaranteed | 180 | 28,800 |
| Featured character, 30 pity and not guaranteed | 150 | 24,000 |
| Featured character, 30 pity and already guaranteed | 60 | 9,600 |
These examples assume the stated pity and guarantee status are accurate and that no 5-star arrives earlier than hard pity. If you already have enough pity to reach the next 5-star sooner, the remaining budget falls accordingly.
Check which banner’s pity applies
The calculation above is for Character Event Wish. HoYoverse event notices state that Character Event Wish and Character Event Wish-2 share their guarantee count, while other wish types have independent counts. HoYoverse’s event notice describes that shared count. Event-wish pity carries to the next event wish under the published rules, and pity resets when a 5-star appears; because the cited FAQ is from 2020, check the live Wish Details screen for the banner’s current rules.
Do not apply the character-event featured-character budget to Chronicled Wish or weapon wishes. Chronicled Wish uses its own pity and Fate Point rules. Its official FAQ says a 5-star item is guaranteed within 90 wishes and has a 50% chance to be the designated item; Chronicled pity carries between Chronicled Wish periods, but Fate Points reset when the period ends.

What Capturing Radiance changes—and what it does not
HoYoverse’s explanation of Capturing Radiance, updated February 10, 2025, gives a 0.018% base probability of triggering the mechanic and a 55% consolidated chance that a 5-star character is promotional. It also describes a guarantee condition involving the promotional character being the second 5-star obtained on three consecutive occasions. The odds are better than a simple 50/50 framing suggests, but for a reliable savings target, use the maximum budget: up to two 5-star cycles if your next character-event 5-star is not guaranteed featured.
