There is no supported in-game setting to compress VALORANT or shrink its installed files. Riot’s documented size reduction came through a game update; on your PC, focus first on finding what is using disk space. If VALORANT appears to have duplicate or leftover files, Riot’s Windows clean-reinstall process can help troubleshoot them, but it is not a guaranteed way to make a healthy installation smaller.
Can you reduce VALORANT’s installed size with a setting?
No supported compression toggle or other local size-reduction setting is documented in Riot’s guidance. Avoid selectively deleting files from an active game folder: Riot describes removing those folders as part of uninstalling and cleanly reinstalling the game, not as a way to keep a working installation while making it smaller.
Riot did reduce the game’s footprint through a software update. In its VALORANT Patch Notes 11.02, Riot said the engine was moving from Unreal Engine 4.27 to 5.3. The patch download would be larger, but Riot said the resulting installation would be “half of the size on your disk.” That statement describes the result of that engine update, not the current installation size or a change players can trigger themselves.
Find out what is taking up space
If your goal is simply to free disk space, check Windows Storage settings or File Explorer to see which apps, folders, or files are using it. This is a general Windows diagnostic step, not a VALORANT-specific fix. Riot’s system requirements page lists hardware and operating-system requirements but does not state a current disk-space requirement. Because game files can change with updates, inspect your own installation and available drive space rather than relying on an unofficial universal GB figure.

When to uninstall and reinstall VALORANT
Consider Riot’s clean-removal procedure if the game appears to have duplicate or leftover files, or if you are troubleshooting an installation problem. It is a troubleshooting route, not a promise that reinstalling will reduce the size of a normal, up-to-date copy. Save any files you need before removing folders.
- Close the Riot Client if it is open.
- In Windows, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find VALORANT, and uninstall it.
- For a clean troubleshooting removal, delete the VALORANT and Riot Client folders inside
C:Riot Games, if they remain. - Empty the Recycle Bin.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
%localappdata%, and remove the Riot Games and VALORANT folders there, if present. - Restart Windows, then download and reinstall VALORANT from Riot.

What not to do
- Do not delete selected files from an active VALORANT installation in an attempt to compress it; the game may stop working or require repair or reinstallation.
- Do not assume a cleaner utility will safely shrink the game. Riot’s cited guidance does not recommend one for this purpose.
- An SSD can provide more storage capacity, but it does not reduce VALORANT’s installed footprint.
