How Thermite was unlocked
During the Black Ops Tribute event, players earned XP in any mode to make progress toward event rewards. Activision listed Thermite as unlockable through that event. The event’s announced dates were April 17–May 1, 2025, so those instructions describe a past event, not an active unlock challenge. Activision’s event announcement has the original dates and progression details.

Where you could use Thermite
Although event XP could be earned in any mode, Thermite itself was a Warzone lethal—not equipment for Black Ops 6 Multiplayer or Zombies. The event’s participation options and the reward’s availability were separate: playing BO6 could contribute event XP, but the Thermite reward was for Warzone. PC Gamer’s contemporaneous guide also clarified that distinction.
Can you still unlock Thermite?
The event window has passed, and the official sources confirming its unlock do not verify whether an Armory or another post-event route is available now. Open Warzone’s current unlock menu and check Thermite’s listed requirements. If it offers a challenge or Armory unlock, follow the in-game instructions; if it does not, the available evidence does not support a specific alternative route.

If you unlocked Thermite during the event, equip it through a Warzone Loadout. At Season 3 launch, Activision also said it could appear in loot, but that is historical information and does not confirm its current availability. See the Season 3 Warzone notes for the launch-era details.
What Thermite does
Activision described Thermite as a sticky incendiary device that burns after impact and is effective against vehicles. Its Season 3 notes said a hit no longer guaranteed a kill, but could down an opponent with two armor plates or fewer; a vehicle could explode if Thermite damage ticks reduced its health to zero. Those are Season 3 specifications, not a confirmation of the current balance.
Activision’s Season 3 launch article described it this way: “Explosive incendiary device that sticks to surfaces. Burns fiercely for a short while after impact and effective against vehicles. Sticks to all surfaces.”

Does BO6 ownership affect the unlock?
No BO6 purchase was required by the event instructions: Activision said XP earned in any mode progressed event rewards. The general account-linked progression guidance for compatible BO6 items does not establish a Thermite-specific unlock route after the event.
