To set an Xbox One or Xbox Series console as your Home Xbox, open Settings > Personalization > My home Xbox and select the option to make it your Home Xbox. This setting shares eligible digital content with other people who use that console.

Set your Xbox as the Home Xbox

  1. Open Settings. On the console, go to Settings > Personalization > My home Xbox.
  2. Choose the Home Xbox option. Select the option to make the console your Home Xbox and follow the labels shown on your screen. Microsoft documents the menu location, but exact prompts can vary with console software.

The Home Xbox sharing model described by Microsoft applies to Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles. Microsoft’s product-sharing documentation identifies the setting path and describes sharing access with people who sign in to the console.

What changes when you designate a Home Xbox?

The setting separates two kinds of digital-content licenses. The device license is attached to the designated Home Xbox, allowing other users on that console to access eligible games, durable add-ons, and subscription-enabled content. The purchaser’s user license remains tied to their Microsoft account, so they can access eligible purchases when signed in elsewhere.

Sharing has limits: some downloadable content may be available only to the purchasing account, and Microsoft’s rules say a game can be played on only one console at a time. See Microsoft’s digital-goods usage rules for the license terms.

How many times can you change your Home Xbox?

Microsoft allows you to designate one console as your Home console and change that designation up to five times during a one-year period. The period is rolling: it begins with the first assignment or change in that period, rather than resetting at the start of a calendar year. If you have used the available changes, you may need to wait until a change becomes available again.
