You can’t sell a fishing pole for gold using any route documented by the Stardew Valley Wiki. If you want to clear an inventory slot, you can trash or drop the pole—but you won’t receive money. If you might use it again, store it instead.
Can you sell a fishing pole for gold?
The Stardew Valley Wiki’s Tools page lists fishing poles among the items that can be trashed and/or dropped. It does not describe a way to sell them. The available guidance therefore supports disposal, not earning gold from an unwanted pole.
What to do with an unwanted fishing pole
Trash it
Use the trash option to remove the pole from your inventory. This is disposal, not a sale, so it does not pay gold.
Drop it
You can also drop a fishing pole. This removes it from your inventory without sale proceeds.

Keep it in storage
If you may want the pole later, put it in storage rather than disposing of it. This is a practical alternative when you are unsure whether you still need it.
Why the Shipping Bin and Willy’s shop aren’t confirmed options
Shipping Bin
The Wiki’s Shipping page says eligible shipped items are paid for after sleeping, and that not every item can be sold through both shipping and merchants. It does not identify fishing poles as eligible, so don’t rely on the Shipping Bin to sell one.

Willy’s Fish Shop
Willy’s shop sells fishing equipment, including rods, but the Wiki’s Fish Shop page does not document buying poles back from players. Its role as a seller of fishing gear is not evidence that it will purchase your old pole.
