To bait fish at sea in Old School RuneScape, bring a fishing rod and fishing bait, then click a coastal fishing spot and choose its Bait option. Bait is consumed as you catch fish. Check the spot’s available actions first: net, cage and harpoon options require different equipment and are not bait fishing.

- A fishing spot that offers the Bait action
The fishing overview lists Fishing level 5 for the ordinary fishing rod. The level needed to catch a particular fish can differ, so check the target fish’s current requirements if you have one in mind. OSRS Wiki: Fishing
How to bait fish at a coastal spot
- Travel to a coastal fishing spot and inspect its available actions.
- Make sure you have a fishing rod and fishing bait in your inventory.
- Click the spot and select Bait. Choosing Net instead starts a different method and requires a small fishing net.
- Keep fishing while the action continues. The game consumes bait as you catch fish.
Where to find coastal bait spots
Draynor Village is a practical place to start: its listed net-and-bait spots are close to a bank, making it convenient to store catches. Other listed coastal locations include Mudskipper Point, Brimhaven and Corsair Cove. Mudskipper Point is south of Port Sarim; its nearest banks are Draynor or Pest Control. Brimhaven’s coastal spots are farther from a bank. These locations do not guarantee the same fishing actions at every spot, so check the menu before starting. OSRS Wiki: Fishing
Bait, net, cage and harpoon are different methods

Use the action shown for the spot and the matching equipment. A coastal location does not mean every fishing method is available there, and a spot offering both net and bait does not require you to use both.

Check requirements for a specific fish
This guide covers the bait method, not a particular catch. Fishing level, membership, quest and location requirements depend on the fish and spot; verify those details for your intended target before travelling. The phrase “sea bait fish” does not name a separate fishing method in OSRS—it is best understood as bait fishing at a coastal spot.
