To score a direct free kick in EA SPORTS FC 25, choose a suitable taker, aim for a target area, adjust the contact point to shape the shot, and set the power. Watch the trajectory and change one variable at a time after each attempt. There is no single aim point or power setting that works for every distance, angle, taker, and control configuration.
How to take a direct free kick
- Choose your taker. Consider Free Kick Accuracy, Curve, and Shot Power. A player with the Dead Ball PlayStyle takes set pieces with increased speed, curve, and accuracy, and gets a longer trajectory preview, according to EA’s free-kick guide.
- Aim toward a target area. Move the aim toward the part of the goal you want the shot to reach. Think in terms of a target area rather than assuming one exact aim point suits every attempt.
- Adjust the contact point. Use this setting to change the shot’s spin and trajectory. Follow the on-screen trajectory line, bearing in mind that a useful contact point depends on the free kick’s distance and angle as well as the taker.
- Set the power and take the shot. Release at the desired power, then assess where the ball went. If it goes wide, hits the wall, or clears the goal, adjust the aim, contact point, or power for the next attempt.
How to find the right buttons for your setup
Button mappings vary by platform and control configuration, so do not rely on a universal set of button labels. EA lists these in-game paths:

How to improve through practice
Use the Training Center or Practice Arena to work on free kicks without waiting for a match situation. From the same position, vary just one factor at a time—aim, contact point, power, or taker—and observe how the shot changes. This makes it easier to connect a result, such as going over the goal or striking the wall, with the adjustment that caused it.

What FC 25 changed for long-range free kicks
In its FC 25 gameplay notes published July 25, 2024, EA said it adjusted shot speed from farther distances to allow more options on long free kicks. The notes do not specify a guaranteed power setting or a routine that scores consistently, so judge each attempt by its trajectory rather than treating a particular setting as universal.

In FC 25 Rush, free kicks are always indirect: pass to a teammate rather than shooting directly at goal. This special rule is described in EA’s Rush Deep Dive. For a regular free kick, EA says a quick restart may also be available; look for an open teammate if you want to take it before opponents return to position. The passing controls depend on your game and control settings.
