To enter Glenbright Manor’s basement, collect the Ruby-Hilted and Sapphire-Hilted Golden Daggers, then place one in each slot above the fireplace in the upstairs study. The bookcase moves to reveal the passage. The Grace Manor Basement Key is a separate item: find it behind a ground-floor painting to open a locked door inside the basement.
Collect both golden daggers upstairs
- Find the Ruby-Hilted Golden Dagger on the upper floor.
- Reveal the second dagger. Use the nearby wheel mechanism to direct chandelier or mirror light onto the gem or crystal. This reveals the compartment containing the Sapphire-Hilted Golden Dagger. Walkthroughs differ in how they describe the light-reflecting object, but the practical step is to use the wheel to aim the light. GameSpot and PCGamesN describe this puzzle.
Open the concealed basement passage
Go to the upstairs study and interact with the two slots above the fireplace. Place one golden dagger in each slot. The bookcase shifts and exposes the passage down to the basement.

This dagger-and-fireplace mechanism opens the basement entrance; it is not operated by the basement key. The route is associated with the Cloudcart Blueprint in the GameSpot walkthrough and the PCGamesN guide.
Find the key for the basement’s separate locked door
On the ground floor, look for a painting near the stairs. Push into the painting or the wall behind it to reveal a hidden room, then collect the Grace Manor Basement Key. The hidden-room location is covered by Video Games Chronicle as well as GameSpot.

Take the key down through the bookcase passage. It unlocks a separate door inside the basement; it does not reveal or open the passage itself. If you have the key but still cannot enter the basement, return upstairs and complete the two-dagger fireplace puzzle.

Players have described the same confusion—having the Glenbright key but being unable to open “that door”—in an anecdotal Reddit discussion. The distinction in the walkthroughs is between two different locks: the fireplace slots reveal the basement route, while the key opens a door after you are already inside. The discussion does not establish a confirmed bug.
