If your mouse stops working in VALORANT, first check whether it also fails on the Windows desktop or in another app. If it does, troubleshoot the mouse and its connection; if it works elsewhere, focus on VALORANT’s controls, drivers, background software, and configuration. Work through the checks below in order, from simplest to most disruptive.
1. Check whether the problem is limited to VALORANT
Move the pointer and click on the Windows desktop, then try the mouse in another application. If it is unresponsive there too, the issue is probably not limited to the game.
- Disconnect and reconnect the mouse.
- If it is USB-connected, plug it directly into the computer rather than through a hub.
- If possible, test it on another PC. If it remains unresponsive, check the mouse, cable or wireless receiver, and device support.

2. Test with a different mouse
If VALORANT is the only place the problem occurs—or the current mouse behaves inconsistently—connect a different mouse if one is available. Riot recommends this as a way to help determine whether the original device may be defective. Treat it as a diagnostic test, not a reason to buy a replacement before checking the connection and driver.

If the second mouse works, inspect the original mouse and its cable or receiver, then check for a driver update from the manufacturer of that exact device.
3. Update the mouse driver and check for software interference
Install the manufacturer’s driver
Riot advises downloading the latest driver for your exact mouse model from its manufacturer, then restarting the PC. Avoid generic third-party driver-updater tools; Riot’s guidance is to use the device maker’s driver.

Try a clean boot
A background app or service may interfere with peripherals in-game. Riot recommends using a clean boot to temporarily disable nonessential background services and see whether the mouse works in VALORANT without them. If it does, re-enable services systematically to identify the conflict. A clean boot changes what starts with Windows, so note your current setup and follow Microsoft’s clean-boot procedure for your Windows version.

4. Check VALORANT controls, then reset the configuration if needed
Review controls and bindings
Open VALORANT Settings and review Controls and the relevant bindings. Confirm that the actions you expect to use are assigned as intended. If the mouse works elsewhere and bindings look correct, Riot documents a configuration reset for input problems.
Reset VALORANT’s saved configuration
This process removes saved configuration files and resets controls, so customized settings may need to be restored. Riot also says players with Agent Profiles should delete and recreate them afterward.

- Close both VALORANT and Riot Client.
- In File Explorer, open
C:Users%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalVALORANTSavedConfig. - Delete the files in the Config folder.
- Reopen Riot Client. If the files reappear, delete them again.
- Log in to VALORANT. If the files regenerate again, delete them again as Riot directs.
- Start a custom game and play for five minutes.
- Before closing the game, open Settings → Controls and select Reset to game defaults.
- Close the game, log out, and start it again.
Afterward, recreate any Agent Profiles and adjust other settings you want to customize.

Riot notes that an outdated Windows version can sometimes be related to input issues, so check for and install available Windows updates. If the mouse still fails in VALORANT after the earlier checks, move on to Riot’s game repair or clean reinstallation guidance rather than starting there.

Outdated DirectX is mentioned in Riot’s separate crash troubleshooting guidance as a possible cause of hardware interaction problems, including mouse or keyboard input failing to register.
