In Forza Horizon 5, the standard Gift Drop does not let you address a car to a specific friend. It lets you give away a car to a broad recipient group instead. Forza previously offered friend selection during limited-time Secret Santa events, but the documented events ended in 2023; check current in-game announcements before looking for that option.
How ordinary Gift Drops work
Forza’s launch-era Gift Drop description says you can choose a car from your garage, add a message and your in-game name or gamertag, then select a recipient group. The listed groups are Anyone, New Players, Returning Players, New Hall of Fame Members, and Community Contributors. The description does not include a named-friend picker. Forza’s September 2021 feature announcement also says the car is removed from your garage after you send it.

Send a community Gift Drop
- Open the Gift Drop feature and choose a car from your garage. Forza’s description says the car may be stock or customized.
- Choose an available message and sign it with your in-game name or gamertag.
- Select the recipient group that best fits the kind of player you want to reach: Anyone, New Players, Returning Players, New Hall of Fame Members, or Community Contributors.
- Confirm only if you are willing to give the car away; sending it removes it from your garage.
A friend might receive the car if they fall within the group you chose and encounter the drop, but this flow does not promise delivery to a named player or show which specific player collected it. These details come from a 2021 description, so check the current in-game interface for any changes.
Gift Drop versus the historical Secret Santa option

The friend-selection route was part of limited-time events, not the ordinary Gift Drop flow. Forza described the Series 2 rules in its Series 2 announcement. A later Horizon Holidays announcement said that event was available until January 5, 2023. Treat both as historical instructions, not evidence that a friend-directed option is active now.

What to do if you want one particular friend to get a car
- Check the game’s current event announcements for a Secret Santa or similar Forzathon Shop feature that explicitly lets you select friends.
- If no such event is active, the standard Gift Drop is a community giveaway, not a reliable way to transfer a car to one named player.
- Before sending a Gift Drop, confirm you are comfortable losing the car from your garage; the described feature does not promise a way to reclaim it.
Forza’s current Forza Horizon 5 product page describes Gift Drops as a way to share creations with the community, but does not establish that friend-addressed car gifting is currently available.
