To catch Ditto in Pokémon GO, catch wild Pokémon it may be disguised as. Ditto reveals itself only after the catch, so check the current disguise list and catch those candidates rather than trying to identify Ditto on the map.

This is a dated list from a specialist guide, not an official live roster. Ditto’s disguises can change, including around events: Pokémon GO’s notice for the 2025 Completely Normal event said Ditto would change into different Pokémon and that the change would continue after the event. How to catch Ditto
- Find a wild Pokémon on the current disguise list. It appears as that species on the map, not as Ditto.
- Catch it normally. The disguise does not come off until after the catch.
- Watch for the reveal. If it was Ditto, the post-catch transformation will show it.

Can another player’s Ditto sighting help?
Yes. Pokémon GO says that when one Trainer encounters a disguised Ditto, that same encounter will also reveal as Ditto for other Trainers who catch it. A nearby report can therefore point you to a useful spawn, provided it is still available. Pokémon GO announcement
Can you spot Ditto before catching it?
There is no dependable pre-catch visual test established in the cited sources. A candidate that seems unusually difficult to catch may attract suspicion, but catch difficulty is not a reliable identifier. Catch eligible candidates rather than skipping them based on appearance or how many attempts they take.

Do Incense, Lures, or accessories improve Ditto odds?
Incense and Lure Modules can add wild encounters to check, according to Pokémon GO Hub, but there is no established Ditto-specific boost to their appearance rate. They may increase the number of candidate encounters you see; they do not guarantee Ditto or improve the odds per candidate.
The optional Poké Ball Plus can catch nearby Pokémon with a button press and responds to Pokémon attracted by Lure Modules, according to Pokémon Support. It may help check ordinary encounters, but the support information makes no Ditto-specific claim. Pokémon Support: Poké Ball Plus FAQ

Can a Shiny Pokémon turn out to be Ditto?
No. The Pokémon GO Help Center says Ditto will not disguise itself as another Shiny Pokémon, even if Ditto itself is Shiny. A Shiny candidate from the disguise pool stays that species. However, a non-Shiny-looking candidate can reveal a Shiny Ditto after capture. Pokémon GO Help Center: Ditto
