When did Little Nightmares III release, and where can you play it?
Little Nightmares III launched October 10, 2025. Bandai Namco lists the game for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The official game page also displays a playable trial; check the page for current platform and trial availability.
The story follows Low and Alone through the Spiral. Players can explore solo with an AI companion or play online co-op with another person. Bandai Namco’s launch announcement, published June 24, 2025, described the game’s editions and platforms; it also said the Little Nightmares franchise had sold 20 million units since the first game’s 2017 release. That is a franchise-wide sales figure, not sales of Little Nightmares III.

What is The Backstage DLC?
The Backstage launched June 12, 2026. It takes players behind the curtains of Carnevale, with new puzzles and challenges. The story introduces Dime and sends Low and Dime on a search for a way to save Alone from the Puppeteer. Bandai Namco says the DLC is available to buy separately and is included in the Secrets of the Spiral Expansion Pass, which comes with the Deluxe Edition. See the publisher’s DLC announcement and news feed for current details.
What changed in the January 2026 update?
Bandai Namco’s January 28, 2026 update added cross-generation online multiplayer between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher listed February 3, 2026 as the rollout date for those two systems; the listed rollout date for PS4 and Xbox One was January 28, 2026. Its patch announcement also lists:

- Embark on a New Adventure in the Unique World of Little Nightmares In Little Nightmares III, you follow the journey of Low & Alone, as they search for a path that could lead them out of Nowhere. Trapped within the Spiral, a cluster of disturbing places, the two friends must work together to survive in a dangerous world full of delusions and escape the grasp of an even more significant threat lurking in the shadows. For the first time in the franchise, face your childhood fears with a friend using online co-op, or solo with an AI companion.
- Improved synchronization between co-op hosts and clients, plus fixes for co-op progression issues.
- Fixes involving the AI companion, interactions, logic blockers and enemies.
- Audio, rendering and animation improvements.
- Room-transition and asset-consistency work, menu texture improvements and store-link fixes.
This specific cross-generation addition is confirmed for Switch and Switch 2. The available announcement does not establish cross-generation play for other console families. Bandai Namco’s news feed also lists a November 2025 update, but the detailed notes are not available in the cited information.
How do online co-op and Friend’s Pass work?
Online co-op requires an internet connection. Bandai Namco says Friend’s Pass allows a friend to play when only one copy of the game is required. A co-op save is tied to the same two players: to play solo or with a different friend, start another save. The publisher’s FAQ says the game supports up to eight saves.

The publisher’s co-op FAQ was written in June 2025, before the January 2026 Switch/Switch 2 update. Its launch-era answer said cross-generation play was unavailable; the later patch specifically changed that for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Do not assume that the same change applies to other platform pairs without a newer confirmation. The current FAQ is available on Bandai Namco’s official game page.
