There is also a game-specific startup warning for some 13th- and 14th-generation Intel desktop CPUs, but it does not explain every crash. None of these steps is guaranteed to fix the problem.
Try these fixes in order
Make one change at a time, then try launching or playing the game again. That makes it easier to tell whether a check changed the behavior. Steam’s general guidance for games that will not launch includes updating Windows and drivers, verifying files, checking requirements, and disabling nonessential software: Steam troubleshooting guidance.
1. Install available game updates
Check the storefront or launcher where you own the game and install any available update. LEGO Horizon Adventures Patch 1.04 notes, dated February 6, 2025, say to make sure the game is up to date: Patch 1.04 notes. Those notes are not a live update history, so check the storefront for current availability rather than assuming Patch 1.04 is the newest release.
2. Update Windows
Install available Windows updates, restart the PC if required, and try again. This is a general platform-level launch troubleshooting step recommended by Steam; it is not a LEGO Horizon Adventures-specific fix.

3. Update the graphics driver
Get the driver from your GPU manufacturer or, for a system where the PC maker supplies validated drivers, from the PC manufacturer. Follow that provider’s installation instructions and restart if requested. Steam recommends updating drivers for launch issues, but no particular driver version is established here as a fix for this game.
4. Verify the game files in Steam
If you have the Steam version, open Library, right-click LEGO Horizon Adventures, choose Properties, then Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files. Wait for Steam to finish and follow any prompts. Verification checks the installed files; it may help with damaged or missing files, but it is not a guaranteed remedy for every crash.

5. Compare your PC with the published requirements
Steam lists the following minimum and recommended specifications. They are reference points, not a guarantee that a PC meeting the minimum will be free of crashes.

The listing also requires a 64-bit processor and operating system. See the Steam store listing for the published requirements. Check that you are comparing the game with the actual CPU and GPU in your PC, not just the model name of a laptop or prebuilt system.

6. Temporarily close nonessential background software
Steam recommends disabling nonessential software when troubleshooting a game that will not launch. Close nonessential applications, test the game, then restore your usual startup and background setup. Change one thing at a time. The available guidance does not identify particular overlays or utilities as confirmed conflicts with LEGO Horizon Adventures.
If startup crashes and your PC has a specific Intel CPU generation
The game’s Patch 1.04 notes specifically state: “The game may crash on boot on specific 13th and 14th generation Intel CPUs. To resolve this a BIOS update may be required.” This is a conditional warning about startup crashes—not evidence that every crash is caused by an Intel processor.

7. Check BIOS guidance from your PC or motherboard maker
If your desktop uses a 13th- or 14th-generation Intel CPU and the game crashes at startup, check the support page for your complete PC or motherboard model, or contact its manufacturer. Use only the BIOS instructions and files that manufacturer provides for your exact system; do not install a BIOS intended for another model.
Intel’s September 25, 2024 guidance described microcode 0x12B as covering 0x125 and 0x129 and addressing elevated voltage requests; Intel said it would be delivered through BIOS updates. That is historical manufacturer guidance, not confirmation that 0x12B is the newest microcode available now: Intel’s 2024 update. A May 2025 developer post quoted Intel Support recommending BIOS with microcode 0x12F or later, validated by the motherboard maker: developer post quoting Intel Support. Follow your manufacturer’s current validated guidance rather than choosing a BIOS based on a microcode number alone. A BIOS update may be required according to the game note, but a particular update is not established as a guaranteed fix for this game.

If the crashes continue
8. Gather details before contacting support
If the checks do not help, contact the game storefront’s support, your PC or motherboard maker, or a local PC technician. Steam notes that some cases require help from a local technician. Have these details ready so support can understand what is happening:
- Your CPU and graphics card model
- Your Windows version
- Where you own or launch the game, such as Steam or another storefront
- Whether the crash happens at startup, during a particular activity, or unpredictably during play
- Any error text or code shown when it crashes
- Which checks you tried and whether any changed the behavior
These details help describe the problem; by themselves, they do not identify its cause. The available sources do not establish a crash-frequency figure or a single fix that works for all affected PCs.
