But it is no longer back in a way new or returning players can access online: the game’s final season ended May 30, 2025, and online play and store downloads ended with it. Eligible players can still use offline modes if they installed the latest version and logged in during Season 5.
What “back” meant for MultiVersus
Warner Bros. Games launched MultiVersus on May 28, 2024, following an earlier open beta. The publisher described it as a free-to-play platform fighter, with full cross-play and cross-progression across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Warner Bros. Games’ launch announcement called this the game’s official launch—not a later revival after the service shut down.
Were Jason and Joker added to MultiVersus?
Yes. Warner Bros. Games named DC’s The Joker and Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise among the new playable fighters for Season 1. Banana Guard was also announced as a new fighter, while Agent Smith was scheduled to arrive later in the season. The announcement does not mean these characters can now be unlocked through online play: the game’s current availability is limited to offline access for eligible players.
Can you still play MultiVersus?
Not online. Season 5 began February 4, 2025, and ended May 30, 2025. Warner Bros. Games says it was the final season and content update; after it ended, the game was no longer available to play online or download from PlayStation Network, the Microsoft Store, Steam, or the Epic Games Store. The publisher’s Season 5 FAQ gives the end-of-service details.

Offline access is available only to players who both installed the latest version and logged in during Season 5. If you missed that window, the publisher does not say you can newly download the game from its former storefronts. It says eligible players can continue playing offline “for the foreseeable future.”

All characters are unlocked in the offline game, according to the Season 5 FAQ. The publisher’s stated eligibility is tied to the final version being installed and a login during the season; merely having played the earlier open beta is not listed as a substitute.
