Summer Game Fest 2025 ended without new Hollow Knight: Silksong gameplay or an official release date. In a June 7, 2025 Windows Central opinion feature, Brendan Lowry hoped the next day’s Xbox Games Showcase might finally provide a date—but that was a prediction, not a confirmed announcement. The wait is now over: Steam lists Silksong as released on September 4, 2025.
What happened at Summer Game Fest 2025?
The June 7 showcase brought no new Silksong gameplay and no official release date, according to Windows Central’s feature by Brendan Lowry. For fans watching for an update, the closest thing was a joke during the scripted introduction to the Marvel Games: Deadpool VR reveal.
Geoff Keighley read a letter attributed to Wade Wilson that teased viewers about a skipped trailer: “You’re gonna do me a solid and skip that Silksong trailer so you can pimp my revolutionary VR gaming venture that will shock the industry probably,” the letter read. It was a gag in a promotional segment—not an unscripted remark from Keighley or a statement from Team Cherry. Lowry took it as a playful jab, but understandably found little comfort in a joke standing in for an actual update.
Why was the Xbox Games Showcase the next hope?
At the time, Silksong was being discussed with a 2025 release window and day-one Xbox Game Pass availability. With the Xbox Games Showcase scheduled for June 8, 2025, Lowry wondered whether it might reveal a specific release date. The article’s “might” mattered: the June 7 feature expressed hope ahead of the event, not knowledge of what the showcase would announce.

That moment is what the title captures: not a verdict on the game or a report that a promised announcement had been withdrawn, but the familiar disappointment of another major showcase passing without the update fans wanted.
What happened to the release-date question?
The uncertainty in the 2025 feature has since been resolved. The official Steam listing identifies Team Cherry as both developer and publisher and gives Hollow Knight: Silksong a release date of September 4, 2025. That later listing is the current answer to the question Lowry was still asking on June 7.

What is known about the physical editions?
A May 29, 2026 Windows Central report says physical editions were revealed for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The report describes a 32-page manual and a poster in the package, and gives October 16, 2026 as the expected physical release date. It also says preorders were available through Fangamer.
Those are details reported by Windows Central, rather than a confirmation of current stock. The report does not establish Amazon availability, and it does not provide a basis here for comparing price or platform performance. It is a separate later development, not an answer that was available to readers of the 2025 opinion piece.
