The grid may initially suggest a scientific theme, but look for toilet humor and an exclamation involving “O!” The hints and solution below come from Tom’s Guide’s February 6, 2024 answer report; they are editorial hints, not official NYT notes. Tom’s Guide’s report gave the puzzle a Connections Companion difficulty score of 2.1 out of 5, a source-attributed rating rather than a standardized measure.
How to approach the word groups
Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four groups of four. Each group shares a theme, and the colors indicate difficulty: yellow is generally the easiest and purple the trickiest. Words can seem to fit more than one category, but the game has exactly one solution, according to the NYT Help Center.

For this grid, check for plausible overlaps before submitting. One group uses several meanings or representations of “O”; another combines familiar modifiers for blond hair. The remaining sets use euphemisms and outfit adjectives. If you spot a likely group, compare all four words before locking it in.
