To open the locked wooden gate near Mikatagahara Junction Shrine, first complete the Fated Land Myth. Then speak with Ii Naotora at Hamamatsu Castle to start Ii’s Memento and receive the Mountain Temple Key. Take the key to the gate and use it to enter the temple area.
Get the Mountain Temple Key
- Complete the Fated Land Myth. This unlocks Ii’s Memento.
- Travel to Hamamatsu Castle and speak with Ii Naotora to begin Ii’s Memento. She gives you the Mountain Temple Key.
Find the locked gate
- Fast-travel to Mikatagahara Junction Shrine.
- Climb the slope opposite the shrine, then turn left at the top.
- Cross the bridge to reach the locked wooden gate.
- Use the Mountain Temple Key to open it.
What is behind the gate?
The gate leads into a Dark Realm enemy base. The walkthroughs describe Skeleton Warriors and a Ninja Yoki inside, followed by a Revenant in the temple area. Clear the encounter, then return to Ii Naotora at Hamamatsu Castle to continue or complete the myth objectives.

Make sure you have the right Mikatagahara gate
This route is for the Mountain Temple gate near Mikatagahara Junction Shrine, which requires Ii’s Memento and the Mountain Temple Key. It is not the separate Mikatagahara Junction gate associated with defeating Yamagata Masakage; those are different progression points, so the Masakage instructions will not open this temple gate.
