When did Oblivion Remastered release?
Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered as available on April 22, 2025—the same day it launched. That’s why it is often described as a shadow drop: the announcement and release arrived together, rather than after a long public countdown. Official launch announcements establish the same-day release, but not that no one had anticipated it.
Bethesda’s launch announcement listed Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. Xbox’s April 22, 2025 launch report specified Steam and the Xbox App for Windows as PC options.
What platforms is it on now?
The original launch platforms and the current platform list are not identical. Bethesda’s official product page, checked October 8, 2026, lists Nintendo Switch 2 as available; Bethesda announced that version on August 11, 2026.

What does the remaster change?
The original game’s core remains, but Bethesda and Xbox describe substantial visual and gameplay updates. The remaster uses Unreal Engine 5 and refreshes character models, lip sync, spell and weapon animations, weather, time of day, menus, map and interface. It also adds sprinting, recreated locomotion and combat animations, modernized third-person play, new dialogue, accessibility features and autosaves.
Systems have also been revised, including enemy scaling and a redesigned leveling system described as drawing inspiration from both Oblivion and Skyrim. These are developer descriptions of the changes; they do not establish identical performance across platforms.

Bethesda described the project as a collaboration with Virtuos. In Bethesda’s April 22, 2025 extended look, Virtuos Executive Producer Alex Murphy put the design priority this way: “Oblivion is the heart and soul of the Remaster,” Bethesda’s extended look.
Does Oblivion Remastered have a physical copy?
Yes. Bethesda describes a limited Physical Deluxe Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X, sold through select regional retailers while supplies last. The disc provides access to the base game, but it is not a complete offline installation: you need an internet connection to download the full game files and extras. Bethesda says the game can be played offline after that initial download.
A code supplies the digital extras, artbook and soundtrack app. Price and stock are not established universally; Bethesda directs buyers to local retailers for regional availability. Check the official product page and retailer listing before buying.
