It did become one of Steam’s most-played games by concurrent-player count: SteamDB records a peak of 917,272 players on 20 June 2024. That is a historical record, not evidence that the game still ranks among Steam’s biggest today.
What is the Banana game on Steam?
Steam’s listing describes Banana as “a clicker Game, in which you click a Banana!” The game released on 23 April 2024. Its central loop is intentionally minimal: click the banana, accumulate bananas, and collect a random banana drop every three hours, according to the store description.
The same listing describes in-app purchases and displays drop-pool chances, with a note that those chances may change. These are digital game items and Steam features—not a physical banana, a required peripheral, or a purchase requirement for a physical edition.
How big did Banana get on Steam?
SteamDB’s curator review, shown on the Steam listing, records 917,272 concurrent players on 20 June 2024, 58 days after release. Concurrent players means the number playing at the same time; it is not the number of people who ever tried the game.

- Wi-Fi 6E
- 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)
- Carrying case with removable liner
That peak is a dated milestone, not a current ranking. A SteamDB page snapshot accessed in 2026 showed about 2,660 players in game. Counts change, and that snapshot should not be read as a guaranteed live count or a Steam-wide chart position. The Steam Dashboard player-count page also notes that its 2026 chart contains only observations it recorded and was not backfilled, so a short observation window is not a complete history.
| Measure | Value | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| All-time concurrent peak | 917,272 on 20 June 2024; SteamDB figure displayed in its Steam curator review | A recorded high-water mark, not the current player count |
| Later player-count snapshot | About 2,660 in game in a SteamDB page snapshot accessed in 2026 | A volatile observation, not an all-time total or Steam-wide rank |
SteamDB’s app record and its chart are useful for following the game, but a peak and a later snapshot answer different questions. Neither alone establishes where Banana ranks at the moment you read this.

Why did a banana-clicking game attract so many players?
The appeal is partly the simplicity: the basic action is immediately clear, while periodic drops give players a reason to return. The drops also connect the game to Steam’s virtual-item economy. A June 2024 report by Phys.org described some skins as sellable through the Steam Marketplace and reported unusually high sales for rare items at that time. Those are historical claims about particular items, not a promise that drops will earn money or retain value.
That report also attributed to the developers the claim that many apparent players were bots. It did not provide an independently measured share of bot accounts, so the claim should not be treated as an audited explanation of the player peak. The recorded concurrent-player milestone is evidence of the scale Steam showed; it does not, by itself, establish how many participants were human or why each person played.

Can you sell Banana drops?
The official store description establishes the drop mechanic and says its pool and chances may change. The June 2024 Phys.org report described some skins as marketable on Steam and discussed high historical sale prices for rare items. That does not establish that every drop is marketable, that any particular item can currently be sold, or that a sale will produce a profit. Check the individual item’s current Steam Marketplace status and listings before assigning it a value.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Banana still one of Steam’s biggest games?
The available figures support a clear distinction: Banana reached a very large concurrent-player peak in June 2024, while a later 2026 snapshot showed a much smaller count. They do not support calling it one of Steam’s biggest games right now. For a current comparison, use a current Steam-wide ranking and compare concurrent players with concurrent players—not a historical peak with a live position.
