Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition gives Nintendo Switch 2 players the base game and Phantom Liberty, but its performance depends on the mode, setting and part of Night City you’re playing. Digital Foundry’s June 2025 comparison tests the Switch 2 version in docked and portable play alongside PS4 and Xbox Series S. It identifies 30 fps and 40 fps targets for Switch 2’s Quality and Performance modes—not guarantees that either rate is locked in every scene.
Which version is being compared?
The comparison concerns Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch 2, not an unspecified version of the game. Nintendo says the edition includes the original story and the Phantom Liberty expansion, and lists its Switch 2 release date as 5 June 2025. Nintendo’s UK product listing gives a 60.6 GB download size; that is a regional listing figure, and updates or other regions may differ.

Digital Foundry’s June 2025 technical review compares the Switch 2 release with the PS4 and Xbox Series S versions. It tests both docked and portable Switch 2 play, and treats the base game and the more demanding Phantom Liberty separately. Those distinctions matter: a result in one mode, setting or portion of the game is not a universal performance verdict.
What do Switch 2’s Quality and Performance modes target?
Digital Foundry’s review description identifies a 30 fps target for Quality mode and a 40 fps target for Performance mode. Targets describe the intended frame rate, not a promise that gameplay holds that rate continuously. The comparison should therefore be read in terms of observed performance under the review’s specific test conditions, rather than as two guaranteed frame-rate options.

- Quality: Switch 2’s stated target is 30 fps.
- Performance: Switch 2’s stated target is 40 fps.
The available review information establishes that these modes and targets were part of the analysis, but does not provide enough scene-by-scene measurements to quote exact observed frame rates for Switch 2, PS4 or Series S. It likewise does not establish exact resolution figures. Without those measurements, it would be misleading to say that Switch 2 matches Series S or beats PS4 as a blanket claim.
Why docked, portable and expansion gameplay should be considered separately
Docked and portable play
The Switch 2 review includes both docked and portable testing. These are distinct play settings, so a comparison needs to identify which one produced a given result. The available information does not give a complete set of numerical results for each setting; it supports acknowledging both, not claiming a specific frame rate or image-quality result for either.

The base game and Phantom Liberty
Digital Foundry notes that Phantom Liberty is more demanding than the main game. That makes the expansion an important separate test rather than a footnote to the base-game comparison. Performance in the original story alone cannot establish how the Switch 2 version behaves throughout the expansion.

The review’s scope makes it useful for understanding how this particular Switch 2 release fares across modes and gameplay conditions relative to the tested PS4 and Xbox Series S versions. It does not, on the information available here, support a precise platform ranking by frame rate or resolution. Nor should one game’s results be treated as a general ranking of the consoles’ power.

CD PROJEKT RED’s developer account offers context on the adaptation work, rather than independent performance evidence. Publishing Tech QA Analyst Jakub Smodrzak said: “Cyberpunk 2077 is a near-five-year-old game we know inside out, so adding entirely new movement mechanics for the Nintendo Switch 2 version meant there were no existing test cases to fall back on.” The developer article describes that work; it does not substitute for platform-by-platform benchmark data.
Should you choose the Switch 2 version?
Choose the Switch 2 edition if playing this complete edition on that system—including in portable mode—is the priority. If your decision depends on exact frame-rate consistency or resolution versus PS4 or Xbox Series S, the available comparison details here are not granular enough to settle it: consult the full Digital Foundry analysis for the specific mode, scene and gameplay section that matters to you. Nintendo’s UK listing identifies the Switch 2 edition and its contents; check the marketplace listing itself to confirm its format and current availability.
