Reviews broadly point to an accessible, arcade-style party game, though some critics found it merely serviceable. Whether it suits you depends on how much you value casual multiplayer over a deeper sports simulation.
What do the reviews say?
Metacritic’s current aggregate snapshot, accessed October 8, 2026, puts the game in the mixed-or-average range on both critic and user scores. The split behind those averages shows why the overall number needs context:
| Metacritic measure | Score or sentiment | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Critic Metascore | 69/100; 25% positive, 71% mixed, 4% negative | 28 critic reviews |
| User score | 5.3/10; 39% positive, 22% mixed, 39% negative | 41 user ratings |
These are aggregator snapshots, not a measure of every player’s experience, and they can change as ratings are added. The review excerpts collected by Metacritic reflect different expectations: some emphasize an energetic, accessible arcade-party feel, while a PC review characterizes it as functional and serviceable at best. Those are individual opinions, not a consensus that every reviewer shares. Metacritic’s game page provides the aggregate, and its critic review excerpts show the range of critical emphasis.
Is it a good fit for you?
For casual group play
The accessible, party-oriented appeal highlighted in some reviews is the clearest reason to consider it. SEGA lists one or two players, online play for up to eight, and Nintendo Switch local wireless play for two to four. Those listed modes make the game easier to consider as a group activity than as a serious sports-management or simulation experience. SEGA’s player-count information does not establish whether online services are still operating today.

- It's the classic UNO card game you know, now with a sports theme celebrating the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020!
- Each card in this colorful deck features images from the upcoming summer games including the Olympic rings and Tokyo 2020 mascot.
- Just like in classic UNO, match cards by color or number in a race to get rid of all the cards in your hand.
- The special "Spirit of Competition" card is a wild card unique to this deck. When you play it, you choose a color and every player must display a card of that color. Whoever has the highest numbered card gets to discard it.
- This limited edition UNO Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 card game makes a great gift for players 7 years old and up, especially sport lovers and athletes!
For a deeper sports simulation
The review picture is less persuasive if you want demanding simulation depth. The available excerpts include praise for an arcade-party approach as well as a more lukewarm assessment; they do not establish a universal verdict on every event or platform version. Check reviews for the specific platform you plan to use rather than treating the aggregate as a substitute for platform-level detail.
Which platforms and release dates are listed?
Platform lineups differ by source and reflect historical listings, not a guarantee that the game is currently sold or playable through every storefront:

- Nintendo 2019
| Source | Platforms listed | Release information |
|---|---|---|
| SEGA Japan product page | PS4, Nintendo Switch, Steam | PS4 and Switch: July 24, 2019 in Japan; Steam: June 22, 2021 |
| Official game website | PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Steam, Stadia | Legacy advertised lineup; no dates stated there |
| Metacritic | PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | Initial release date listed as June 22, 2021 |
The release dates are not contradictory: SEGA’s page distinguishes the Japanese console editions from the later Steam release, while Metacritic gives an initial release date. The official site and aggregator also show broader historical platform listings. SEGA’s Japanese product page, official game website, and Metacritic listing are useful for checking which platform a listing refers to.
Can you still buy it?
Availability depends on territory, platform, and whether you are looking for a digital or physical copy. SEGA’s Japanese product page says digital distribution has ended in Japan; that notice should not be generalized to other territories. Confirm the current store listing in your region before assuming the game is available digitally. A third-party product/manual listing documents a PS4 physical edition, but it does not show that copies are currently in stock or establish their price, condition, or region compatibility. SEGA Japan’s product page is the source for the Japan-specific digital-distribution notice.

How should you weigh the scores?
Use the 69 critic score and 5.3 user score as a quick signal of divided, middling reception—not as proof that a particular edition performs well or poorly. The available aggregate does not provide a platform-by-platform performance comparison, and the user-rating sample is relatively small. Before buying, weigh the kind of play you want, the review coverage for your platform, and the current local availability of that edition.
