Paramount said it would develop, produce, and distribute the movie. The announcement did not name a game installment, story, characters, cast, setting, or release date.
What Paramount and Activision announced
Paramount said it had signed a film deal with Activision, which the announcement identified as part of Microsoft. The named film partner is Activision; the announcement does not identify Microsoft separately as a producer. Paramount’s stated responsibilities are to develop, produce, and distribute a live-action feature based on Call of Duty. Paramount’s September 2, 2025 announcement described the goal as honoring the franchise’s narrative and style while reaching existing fans and new audiences. That is the companies’ creative intention, not a guarantee of audience response.
Paramount said: “Our shared goal is quite simple — to create an unforgettable blockbuster movie experience that our community loves, and one that also excites and inspires new fans of the franchise.” This is a statement of the companies’ ambition, not a description of a finished film.
Who is attached to make the film?
On October 30, 2025, The Associated Press reported that Peter Berg would direct, co-write, and produce the film, with Taylor Sheridan as co-writer and producer. AP said further movie details were not then available. Those creative attachments are reported by AP; Paramount’s original deal announcement did not name them.

What is known about the story, cast, and release date?
The cited announcements and reporting do not specify which Call of Duty game installment, if any, the film draws from. They also leave the plot, characters, setting, cast, and release date undisclosed. No production schedule or start of filming is established by these sources, so it would be premature to treat the movie as having begun production or to predict a premiere date.
What Paramount’s 2026 update says—and does not say
In a shareholder letter filed on February 25, 2026, Paramount listed a forthcoming Call of Duty adaptation in partnership with Activision among projects planned for 2027 and beyond. The phrasing places the film on a forward-looking slate; it does not announce a 2027 release date or provide a more specific schedule. Paramount’s SEC-filed shareholder letter is the latest sourced status cited here.

How large is the franchise?
AP reported on October 30, 2025, that the Call of Duty franchise had sold more than 500 million copies globally. That is the dated figure AP reported in its film coverage, not a newly verified 2026 sales total. Paramount’s September 2025 announcement also called the series the best-selling video game series in the United States for 16 consecutive years, but that was Paramount’s promotional claim and did not specify its measurement source or exact endpoint.
