Why fans think a new Jak and Daxter game could be coming
The speculation rests on a few separate clues, not a direct report that a Jak and Daxter project is in development. An August 18, 2025 article by Lardol described Jason Schreier as having reported on ResetEra that Santa Monica Studio was working on an older intellectual property and updating it to feel like a new one. The property was not identified. Connecting that unspecified project to Jak and Daxter is conjecture, not confirmation from PlayStation or either studio. Lardol’s account
The same article pointed to a 2021 Cory Barlog post joking, “I’m making a Last of Us game, only with Jak and Daxter as the main characters.” The post was a joke, not a reveal of a game. In combination with the unidentified Santa Monica Studio project, it may help explain why fans are hoping for a revival, but it does not establish that one is underway.
What Naughty Dog said about a new game in the past
In a 2012 Game Informer interview, Evan Wells, then co-president of Naughty Dog, said, “We did explore the idea fairly extensively.” He was describing an earlier attempt to imagine a new Jak and Daxter game, not a current project. Wells explained that the team considered applying lessons from Uncharted, including a more realistic presentation, but the concepts began to stray too far from what made Jak and Daxter distinctive. That history offers context for why making another entry may be creatively challenging: a new direction has to feel fresh without losing the series’ identity. It is not evidence that Naughty Dog has restarted that work.
Is PlayStation or Naughty Dog announcing a new Jak and Daxter?
The official PlayStation material cited here does not announce a new game. PlayStation’s Jak and Daxter tag archive collects franchise-related posts, including a 2021 anniversary post, but an archive is not proof that no announcement exists elsewhere or could come later. The available evidence supports a narrower conclusion: there is no confirmed new game in the sources behind this speculation.

What can you play while you wait?
For a confirmed series option, PlayStation Blog identifies Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy as a 2001 Naughty Dog game and includes it in a PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog platformer roundup. PlayStation Blog’s Classics Catalog roundup
Catalog selections and availability can change and may differ by region, so check your local PlayStation Plus catalog for the current listing. This is an option for revisiting an existing game; it does not signal that a new one is in development.
