Use this Sword and Shield type chart to see which attacks a defending Pokémon is weak to, resists, or immune to. A weakness takes 2× damage, a resistance takes ½×, and an immunity takes 0×. For a Pokémon with two types, combine both modifiers.

Pokémon Sword and Shield type chart

Read each row as the defending Pokémon’s type. The entries show which attacking types deal super-effective damage, reduced damage, or no damage. A type not listed in the row deals normal damage.

How to use the chart in battle

Start with the move’s type

Match the type of the move you plan to use against the opponent’s defending type. For example, a Water-type move hits a Fire-type Pokémon for 2× damage, while a Fire-type move against that same defender is resisted at ½×. If the move’s type is not listed as a weakness, resistance, or immunity, the matchup is normal.

Combine both types of a dual-type defender

When the target has two types, multiply the modifiers for each type. If both types are weak to the move, the result is 4× damage; if both resist it, the result is ¼×. A weakness and a resistance cancel to normal damage. If either type is immune to the move, the result is 0×.

What “strength” means here

This chart describes defensive type matchups: weaknesses, resistances, and immunities. It does not mean a type is universally best. When choosing an attack, read the table from the opponent’s defending type; when planning a team, check what can threaten each Pokémon and what attacks it can safely take.

Scope: Sword and Shield

This reference is for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. The Pokémon Company’s official type chart lists the 18 types but notes that type affinity can differ by game because its chart reflects the latest game in the series. For this game-specific lookup, the table follows the Sword and Shield chart published by GameWith, updated October 1, 2026. Don’t assume a chart for a different Pokémon game has identical type relationships.
