Reports based on purported leaked Game Freak material said Pokémon Legends: Z-A had once been planned for 2024. Nintendo’s official announcement on February 28, 2024, gave the public a 2025 release window instead. The game ultimately launched on October 16, 2025; the reported earlier target has not been authenticated by the official release information cited here.
What was Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s reported 2024 plan?
In October 2024, coverage of the Game Freak data breach described purported internal material suggesting that Pokémon Legends: Z-A had previously been targeted for release in 2024. Kotaku reported that some leaked material pointed to a possible Winter 2024 launch, while ComicBook.com also described a 2024 target as a leak-derived claim. These are reports about purported leaked material, not an officially confirmed release schedule. Kotaku’s report and ComicBook.com’s report describe the claim.
What release window did Nintendo announce?
Nintendo’s February 28, 2024 announcement said The Pokémon Company would release the game simultaneously worldwide in 2025 on Nintendo Switch systems. That was the official public window at reveal; it does not establish whether an earlier internal target existed. Nintendo’s announcement stated the public window.
Was the game officially delayed from 2024?
The available official release information does not confirm a formal delay from 2024 or explain a reason for a schedule change. The most accurate description is that leaked-material reporting suggested a prior 2024 target, while Nintendo publicly announced a 2025 window. Without an authenticated internal schedule or an official statement confirming the change, calling it definitively “delayed from 2024” goes beyond what those sources establish.
