The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 pairs 10,752 CUDA cores with 16 GB of GDDR7 and 960 GB/s of memory bandwidth. Those are reference specifications, not a promise of a particular frame rate: results depend on the game, resolution, settings, system and whether features such as DLSS or frame generation are enabled.

What are the RTX 5080 specs?

NVIDIA’s product page identifies the RTX 5080 as a Blackwell card and lists these reference specifications. The page also gives launch context: a starting price of $999 and availability beginning January 30, 2025. That starting price is not a current retailer quote. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 specifications

Specification NVIDIA-listed value
Architecture Blackwell
CUDA cores 10,752
Base clock 2.30 GHz
Boost clock 2.62 GHz
Memory 16 GB GDDR7
Memory interface 256-bit
Memory bandwidth 960 GB/s
Launch listing Starting at $999; availability beginning January 30, 2025

Bandwidth describes how quickly data can move between memory and the GPU; it is not a direct measure of game frame rate. NVIDIA promotes the card for demanding games and creative applications, including ray tracing and DLSS features. Actual support and results vary with the software, game, settings and image-quality preferences.

How does the RTX 5080 perform?

Independent launch reviews from GamersNexus and Tom’s Hardware include benchmark comparisons, but there is no single result that represents every game or PC. A useful comparison should match resolution and graphics settings, then keep native rendering, ray tracing and DLSS or frame-generation results distinct. CPU, drivers and test selection also affect the outcome.

ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5080 16GB GDDR7 OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4. System Requirements: Minimum 850W PSU with 16-pin 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) connector required. Verify before purchasing. OC mode: 2685 MHz/ Default mode: 2655 MHz (Boost Clock)
  • SFF-Ready enthusiast GeForce card compatible with small-form-factor builds
  • Axial-tech fans feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
  • Vapor chamber ensures efficient heat transfer for lower GPU temps
  • Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability

Consult the test tables and methods in the GamersNexus RTX 5080 Founders Edition review and Tom’s Hardware RTX 5080 review for results under each outlet’s stated conditions. Do not treat a generated-frame output as native rendering performance: frame generation creates additional displayed frames, so it answers a different question from how quickly the GPU renders frames directly.

For an upgrade comparison with an RTX 4080, RTX 4080 SUPER, RTX 5090 or another card, compare the same games and settings at the same resolution. Review ray tracing, upscaling and frame generation separately from native rasterization; use creator-workflow results only when the same application and settings were tested. Power, noise, temperatures, dimensions and actual prices should also be compared using the same test method and date.

What power supply and case clearance does it need?

NVIDIA’s Founders Edition Quick Start Guide specifies a minimum rated system power of 850 W and card dimensions of 304 × 137 × 61 mm. These requirements refer to the Founders Edition; partner cards can differ. Check the exact card’s dimensions and power instructions, plus the PSU manufacturer’s guidance, before buying or installing. NVIDIA RTX 5080 Quick Start Guide

For the Founders Edition, the guide describes a supplied 16-pin adapter requiring at least three independent dedicated 8-pin PCIe leads. It also describes using a 450 W-or-higher 16-pin cable. Follow the instructions for the specific card and PSU; do not assume a generic adapter or a cable layout intended for another unit is suitable. A new PSU is only necessary if the existing one does not meet the requirements for the complete system.

  • Confirm the PSU’s rated capacity, available connectors and cable configuration against the exact card and the rest of the system.
  • Read the supplied installation guide and seat the power connection as directed before powering on.

What about DLSS and creator features?

NVIDIA lists two ninth-generation encoders and two sixth-generation decoders for the RTX 5080. These are hardware capabilities; they do not establish a specific editing, streaming or export-time improvement in any application. For a creator workflow, look for benchmarks in the software, media format and settings you actually use.

NVIDIA’s product page identifies DLSS 4 features in its specification information, while promotional page content may use newer DLSS branding. Verify support for the specific feature and game at the time you plan to use it rather than assuming every advertised feature is available in every title. Is the RTX 5080 worth upgrading to?

That depends on what you play, your current GPU, target resolution and the price available to you. The published $999 figure is NVIDIA’s launch starting price, not evidence of today’s street price. Compare current offers with same-condition independent benchmarks, and weigh native performance separately from ray tracing and frame-generation results. Check the dimensions and cabling of the exact model before deciding that it will fit your system.
