Start by updating the game and restarting your Steam Deck. If the crashes began after an update, verify the game files and remove any mods. Nixxes has published Steam Deck performance and stability updates, but its official guidance does not identify one cause or universal fix for every Deck crash. If the steps below do not help, contact Nixxes Support rather than assuming a particular Proton setting or hardware change will solve it.
First, narrow down when the crash happens
Before changing settings, note whether the game crashes at launch, during a particular mission, after a recent update, when opening the SteamOS overlay, or only after playing for a while. Also record the game version, SteamOS version and channel, Deck model, and whether you use mods. These details can help distinguish a launch problem from a crash during play; they do not by themselves diagnose the cause.
Try the supported troubleshooting steps
Update the game and restart the Deck
Install any update available for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, then restart the Deck and test again. Official updates have included Deck-specific performance changes and stability improvements, but their presence in patch notes does not mean every crash has been fixed. The latest update visible in the official Steam announcements reviewed here is an August 11, 2026 hotfix; its notes describe Fresh Start suit improvements, not a Steam Deck crash fix. Check the official Steam announcements.
Verify the game files and remove mods
If the problem started after an update, Nixxes explicitly recommends verifying the installed game files and removing any mods. In Steam, open the game’s Properties, choose Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files. If you have mods, remove them before testing the unmodified game. Nixxes’ support instructions give these post-update checks and recommend contacting support if they do not resolve the issue.

Consider the previous-version beta only as a workaround
Nixxes documents a Steam rollback workaround for persistent post-update crashes. In the game’s Steam Library page, open Properties, select Betas, and choose previous_version. This is a workaround, not a guaranteed or permanent fix. Return to the current version when an update resolves the problem.
What the official Deck patches do—and do not—establish
The Deck-related patch notes are useful context, but they do not identify the cause of an individual crash:

When to contact Nixxes Support
If updating, verifying the files, removing mods, and—if appropriate—trying the documented rollback do not help, contact Nixxes PC support. Nixxes asks players to include the game log, any crash dump files with the .mdmp extension, DxDiag.txt, and the save file where the issue occurs.

Nixxes publishes %userprofile%documentsMarvel's Spider-Man 2 as a Windows Documents-folder shortcut for the log and saves. It is not a SteamOS path, and the available official instructions do not provide a Deck equivalent. If you cannot locate the requested files on SteamOS, say so in your support request rather than using that Windows path as if it applied to the Deck. The Nixxes PC support index also lists general guides for crashes, save issues, and launcher troubleshooting.
Changes not established as fixes
The official material cited here does not establish a particular Proton version, launch option, Decky plugin, swap-file change, microSD card, or replacement component as a proven fix for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 crashes on Steam Deck. Community posts can describe individual experiences, but may involve different patches and configurations; they are not confirmation of a general remedy.
