No—not for future Call of Duty releases. Sarah Bond’s 2024 comments about Xbox games coming to Game Pass day one were followed by a specific Black Ops 6 launch-day confirmation, but Xbox changed the timing for future Call of Duty games in April 2026: they are expected on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass about a year after release, not at launch. Existing Call of Duty games already in the library are to remain available.
What Sarah Bond said in 2024
In a May 2024 Bloomberg interview, Xbox president Sarah Bond said that subscribers got “every single one of the games we build day one in game pass” and that more major games would arrive later that year. The wording is reproduced in contemporaneous reporting by Insider Gaming from a transcript attributed to XboxEra; it is not a quote checked against a Bloomberg transcript or recording. When asked whether the major games meant Activision titles, Bond reportedly replied, “Across the whole slate.” GameSpot characterized Call of Duty as an implication of that answer, not as a title-specific promise in the exchange. GameSpot’s report
What Xbox confirmed for Call of Duty
Xbox later made the specific day-one commitment concrete for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: its May 28, 2024 announcement said the game would be playable on day one with Game Pass. That confirmation applied to Black Ops 6; Bond’s broader wording should not be read as a perpetual launch-day guarantee for every Activision game. Xbox Wire’s Black Ops 6 announcement

What changed for future Call of Duty games
On April 21, 2026, Xbox announced that future Call of Duty titles would not join Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass on release day. Xbox said new releases would instead be added during the following holiday season, about a year after launch. The announcement also said Call of Duty games already in the Game Pass library would remain available. Xbox Wire’s April 2026 update
Microsoft explained that the change reflected feedback from players with different preferences, tastes, and locations, while saying there was no single model best for everyone. It did not publish a quantified estimate of the policy’s effect on subscriptions or sales. Xbox Wire’s explanation

Which Game Pass plans include day-one games?
Game Pass access depends on the plan, and plan details can vary by region. The Xbox plan page reviewed for this article is localized for Singapore: it lists day-one games with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, but not Premium or Essential. It says Premium receives new Xbox-published games within a year, excluding Call of Duty. Check the Xbox plan page for your market before subscribing or changing plans. How to decide whether the change matters to you
- You want the next Call of Duty on release day: Xbox’s April 2026 policy means Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass are no longer the day-one route for future entries; plan for roughly a year’s wait on the subscription service.
- You play older Call of Duty games: Xbox said the titles already in the library would stay available. That does not promise that every older game will be added or remain indefinitely beyond the stated update.
- You mainly want other new Xbox-published games: Compare the benefits of the plan available in your region. The cited Singapore page lists day-one access on Ultimate and PC Game Pass, while Premium and Essential do not include it.
Why older headlines can be misleading
The “every first-party game” framing came from Bond’s 2024 statement about games Xbox builds, followed by a broad answer about Activision and a specific Black Ops 6 confirmation. Xbox’s 2026 update changed the launch timing for future Call of Duty releases. The two statements describe different points in time, so the older headline is not an accurate description of the current policy for future Call of Duty games.
For context, Xbox reported 34 million Game Pass subscribers in February 2024. That is a historical company figure, not a current subscriber count and not evidence of how the 2026 Call of Duty change affected subscriptions. Xbox’s February 2024 business update
