Neither Chapter 2 path is universally better. Choose Embrace the Frost if you want a generator that can use multiple fuels and prefer Frostland settlements and exploration. Choose Defeat the Frost if you want to use oil more efficiently and unlock Deep Melting Drills, and are willing to commit to an oil-only generator.
What does the Chapter 2 choice change?
At the start of Chapter 2, after securing oil from the Old Dreadnought, you choose whether New London will adapt to the Frost or try to overcome it. The decision shapes the campaign’s resource strategy and shifts faction approval: Stalwarts support Defeat, while Pilgrims support Embrace. The opposing faction disapproves, and its fervor rises.

Choose Defeat the Frost for oil efficiency and deep deposits
This route upgrades the generator to use oil more efficiently, but it can no longer burn coal or steam. If you need to rely on coal, you can process it into oil with Coal Liquefactors, adding another step to your supply chain.

Defeat also unlocks Deep Melting Drills, which let extraction districts reach deep deposits. This points Chapter 2 toward building up the city’s extraction capacity and managing the Old Dreadnought oil supply as the Whiteout approaches. It is a strong fit if you prefer developing New London and nearby resources over expanding your Frostland network.

Choose Embrace the Frost for fuel flexibility and Frostland settlements
Embrace gives you a generator that can use coal, oil, and later steam. It is more flexible when your available fuel changes, though it does not maximize oil efficiency in the way the Defeat upgrade does.
Instead of Deep Melting Drills, this route unlocks Frostland settlements with unlimited output. Establishing and supplying those settlements requires Frostland logistics, and you will need Trails and Skyways to move resources back to New London. Choose this path if exploration and building an external resource network appeal more than concentrating on extraction near the city.

Dot Esports recommends trying one route on an initial run and the other on a second; that is a way to explore both strategies, not a requirement. If you are undecided, focus on the tradeoff you would rather manage: fuel flexibility and Frostland logistics, or oil dependence and deep extraction.
