Before the reveal, a December 22 Notebookcheck article used the previous five years’ sixth-slot offers to suggest the next giveaway could be strong—but that was a historical guess, not an Epic hint or a reliable forecast. Notebookcheck’s original report was published while the offer was still pending; PC Gamer’s updated giveaway history and GamesRadar’s December 2025 coverage confirm the result.
What was Epic’s sixth mystery game in 2025?
Paradise Killer was the Epic Games Store holiday giveaway listed for December 22, 2025. It is an open-world murder-mystery adventure, not a first-person shooter. That outcome matters because the earlier five-game comparison included several shooters, but it did not establish that the next offer would follow the same genre pattern.

The forecast began with a genuine unknown: Notebookcheck said there was no official hint about the sixth game. Its article was a prediction based on past holiday offers, not a leak, announcement, or confirmation from Epic. The mystery is now resolved, so references to a “strong upcoming giveaway” describe the article’s pre-reveal expectation, not a current offer.
Which games informed the 2025 prediction?
Notebookcheck’s December 22, 2025 article compared the sixth holiday giveaway slot across five prior years:

| Year | Sixth-slot offer named in the comparison | Offer-format note |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | Metro: Redux | Notebookcheck’s list identifies the offer by this title. |
| 2021 | Second Extinction | Notebookcheck’s list identifies the offer by this title. |
| 2022 | Wolfenstein: The New Order | Notebookcheck’s list identifies the offer by this title. |
| 2023 | Ghostwire: Tokyo | Notebookcheck’s list identifies the offer by this title. |
| 2024 | Dark and Darker – Legendary Status | The listed offer was “Legendary Status,” a status pack, so it should not be treated as identical in format to a standalone base-game giveaway. |
The list supports a limited observation: several entries are recognizable games, and the 2024 entry was an in-game status offer. It does not provide a consistent review score or a common method for deciding which offer was “strong.” Notebookcheck’s “well-regarded” description is editorial characterization, not a measured comparison.
Did the history really predict a strong game?
Not in a dependable or measurable sense. Five examples describe five past offers; they do not establish a stable rule, a probability of receiving an acclaimed game, or a causal connection between a game’s position in the holiday schedule and its quality. The 2025 result, Paradise Killer, also shows why the apparent shooter-heavy pattern should not be treated as a rule.

There is no rating methodology or comparable set of review scores in the cited historical comparison, and no named statistic measuring how “strong” sixth-slot games have been. The careful conclusion is that the earlier lineup gave readers reasons to be interested, not a sound basis for confidently predicting the next title.

How Epic’s regular weekly free-game claims work
Epic Support says new weekly games appear on Thursdays at 8 a.m. PT and can be claimed for seven days. Once claimed, a game stays in the account library. Claiming requires an Epic account with two-factor authentication. These are Epic’s general weekly-offer terms; they should not automatically be assumed to govern every special holiday daily giveaway. See Epic’s free-games support article and its offer-change schedule.
Epic Player Support also says it does not have advance information about upcoming free games. That reinforces the distinction between a history-based prediction and an official announcement: until Epic reveals an offer, a forecast remains speculation.
