Why did Sony raise the price?
MobileSyrup reported PlayStation’s explanation as “ongoing market conditions.” The report does not provide a more detailed Canada-specific explanation, so factors such as inflation, exchange rates or content costs should not be treated as Sony’s confirmed reasons.
Which PlayStation Plus tier fits your use?
The price increase covered only the two Essential billing terms identified above. If you are choosing a plan, compare how often you pay with the benefits you will actually use. PlayStation’s Canadian PlayStation Plus page describes the tiers as follows:

#1 Best Overall
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
- Essential: Monthly games, online multiplayer, Store discounts, Share Play, cloud storage and exclusive content.
- Extra: Essential benefits plus access to the Game Catalog.
- Premium: Lower-tier benefits plus the Classics Catalog, game trials and cloud streaming.
Catalogue contents and availability can change. PlayStation says PS4 games will be added only intermittently from January 2026. Monthly games and catalogue access are subscription benefits, not a promise of permanent ownership: continued access to Plus benefits requires an active membership, and some catalogue titles can leave the service.
