Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed the game’s launch on September 6 in its launch announcement. The release described more than 150 PlayStation-inspired heroes and said DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers support the experience. Those details likewise come from Sony’s official description.
When did Astro Bot come out, and who made it?
ASTRO BOT launched on PS5 on September 6, 2024. Team Asobi developed the game, and Sony Interactive Entertainment published it. Team Asobi’s official game page lists PS5, the release date, one player, and ESRB Everyone 10+ and PEGI 7 ratings. Ratings and store availability can vary by region.

What kind of game is it, and which system does it require?
PlayStation describes ASTRO BOT as a single-player 3D action platformer and a PS5 exclusive. It is the full-sized game, distinct from Astro’s Playroom, the separate game preloaded on PS5. PlayStation’s US FAQ says there are no in-game purchases. The cited official information identifies PS5 as the platform; it does not establish PS4 or PS VR2 compatibility.
Sony also released an ASTRO BOT-themed limited-edition DualSense controller alongside the game. PlayStation calls it the ASTRO BOT Joyful Limited Edition DualSense Wireless Controller. The controller is an optional accessory, not a stated requirement to play; its present availability is not established.

A pre-announcement video report described its own information as uncertain and did not establish a release date. The confirmed dates are Team Asobi’s May 30 announcement and Sony’s September 6 launch.

Sony Interactive Entertainment later reported that ASTRO BOT was nominated in four categories at The Game Awards 2024, including Game of the Year and Best Family Game, in a 2025 investor-relations transcript. This is later recognition, not evidence about the earlier rumor or an announcement of a sequel.
