Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier said on May 18, 2026, that PlayStation Studios business CEO Hermen Hulst told employees in a town hall that the company’s narrative single-player games would be PlayStation-exclusive. The account leaves room for multiplayer and live-service games to continue launching on PC, and it does not settle the platform plans for every individual title.
What is changing—and what is not confirmed
The reported shift concerns in-house PlayStation Studios narrative single-player games. Schreier’s account of Hulst’s staff remarks is reporting about an internal meeting, not a public Sony policy announcement. Push Square’s May 18, 2026 report relays Schreier’s post; it does not provide a direct public statement from Hulst.
That distinction matters: this is not evidence that Sony is leaving PC or that every game associated with PlayStation will be console-only. Reports describe multiplayer and live-service titles as possible exceptions. Independently developed games and partner-published releases may also follow their own agreements, so the reported approach should not be applied automatically to those projects.
What PC players can infer by release status
- Already released PC ports: The reported change does not mean existing PC versions are being withdrawn.
- Announced, unreleased ports: A reported strategy shift does not by itself confirm that a previously announced port is canceled. Check the game’s current official platform listing.
- No announced PC version: Do not treat a PC release as guaranteed for a future in-house narrative single-player game.
Will Ghost of Yōtei come to PC?
Sony’s FY2025 supplemental information lists Ghost of Yōtei for PS5 and reports 3.3 million cumulative sell-through units as of November 2, 2025, 32 days after its U.S. release. It does not list a PC version. That establishes the platform Sony recorded for the game in that document—not a permanent promise that no PC version will ever arrive. Sony’s supplemental information does not announce a PC release for it.

Given the reported distinction for in-house narrative single-player games, a PC version should not be assumed. Sony has not publicly specified a final, title-by-title PC decision for Ghost of Yōtei.
How the reported shift differs from Sony’s earlier public plan
Sony’s FY2024 Form 20-F, filed in 2025, explicitly described a multi-platform approach. It said: “Additionally, Sony plans to continue its efforts to deploy its first-party titles to multiple platforms such as PC, and to create films and television shows based on PlayStation game IP through collaborations within the Sony Group, in order to further expand the reach and monetization of its IP.” Sony’s FY2024 Form 20-F is the company’s own description of its earlier plan; it predates the 2026 reporting about a pullback.

In June 2026, VGC reported that Sony’s 2026 filing omitted the earlier sentence about deploying first-party games to multiple platforms such as PC. That omission is consistent with a change in emphasis, but it does not spell out which games are affected, when any change takes effect, or what exceptions apply. VGC’s comparison of the filings describes it as an apparent signal, not a comprehensive public policy. Sony’s investor-relations index also says the company moved from the traditional corporate-report format to continuous disclosure from 2026; its latest full corporate report listed there is the 2025 edition. Why the multiplayer distinction matters
Sony’s own platform records illustrate that PlayStation games have not followed one uniform release pattern. Its FY2025 supplemental information lists Helldivers 2 for PS5 and PC, with 12 million combined sell-through units as of May 5, 2024—87 days after its U.S. release. The same document lists Ghost of Yōtei for PS5. These examples show different platform records; they do not prove why Sony may be changing strategy or establish what it will do with the next game. Sony’s 2025 Corporate Report described PlayStation’s platform priorities as expanding its user base, engagement, and revenue from content, services, and peripherals, while its studio priorities included both single-player experiences and live-service diversification. It reported 124 million players and more than 4,000 creators as of March 31, 2025. Those figures and priorities provide broad context for the business, but they do not confirm the 2026 PC policy. For any specific game, the most reliable answer is the platform information Sony or the game’s publisher currently announces. The reported change makes future PC versions of major in-house narrative single-player games less certain, but it does not answer every title’s release plan. Multiplayer and live-service releases may continue to be multi-platform, and third-party agreements may differ. Treat an unannounced PC version as unconfirmed rather than promised or definitively canceled.
