Evidence reported by PlayStation price tracker PSPrices suggests Sony has tested different PlayStation Store offers for selected games, users and regions. Its observations through March 2026 included more than 190 games across over 70 regions, but they do not establish how many customers were affected, why accounts saw different offers, or whether the test is still running in the same form today.
What has been reported about PlayStation Store pricing?
PSPrices reported finding offer identifiers including IPT_PILOT, IPT_OPR_TESTING and IPT_LTM in PlayStation API responses. The tracker says these offers were shown to selected user segments as part of controlled testing. That is PSPrices’ interpretation of storefront data, not a public explanation from Sony about the test’s design. PSPrices’ report and examples.
PSPrices said the activity began in November 2025. By March 2026, it reported an expansion from 50 games in 30 regions to more than 190 games in over 70 regions, including the United States. It counted 189 games in the reported US set, with 104 in the US-only IPT_LTM program. These are dated tracker observations, not a verified current inventory or a population-wide study.
What prices did the reports show?
PSPrices published examples of offers that differed from the listed regular price. They are examples reported by the tracker, not prices guaranteed to appear for every account.

| Territory and reported example | Reported offer | Regular-price comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Germany: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök and Stellar Blade | €69.99 | €79.99 |
| Germany: Helldivers 2 | €35.74 | €39.99 |
| United States: Helldivers 2 | $28.89 | $39.99 |
| United States: The Last of Us Part I | $52.89 | $69.99 |
For these reported examples, PSPrices described discounts of up to 17.6% in the cited European offers and up to 27.8% in one US Helldivers 2 offer. The tracker’s March 2026 report said the IPT_LTM test prices in its table were below standard retail. The figures should not be read as evidence that customers generally paid more.
What happened with the GTA V price claim?
PSPrices corrected its interpretation on March 12, 2026. It had earlier described an experimental GTA V price of $29.99 as a possible test increase; it later clarified that the PS5 retail price was $39.99 and that the two experimental prices it identified, $26.99 and $29.99, were both discounts. The correction matters: those examples do not show a test price above retail.

Why might two people see different prices?
Reports describe differing offers across selected segments, and separate observations have found price differences between logged-out and logged-in storefront views. Push Square reported seeing Assassin’s Creed Unity at £3.74 while logged out and £9.99 after login, along with a different logged-in price for The Last of Us Part II Remastered. TechRadar’s September 2026 follow-up relayed Canadian users’ examples of different logged-in and logged-out Star Wars game offers. It also noted US users with and without PS Plus who saw the same offers. These are limited observations, not proof that login caused the difference or that any one account attribute determines a price. Push Square’s March 2026 report; TechRadar’s September 2026 follow-up.
The sources reviewed do not establish which personal data, account characteristics or selection rules Sony may use to place customers in segments. A difference between two storefront views is evidence of different displayed offers; by itself, it does not identify the cause.

How to compare a reported price difference fairly
Before treating two screenshots or listings as evidence of personalized pricing, make sure they refer to comparable conditions:
- Same game and edition: Confirm the title, platform version and edition match.
- Same territory and currency: Store prices can differ by region, so a euro listing is not a direct comparison with a US-dollar listing.
- Same date and time: Offers and sales can change. Record when each price was observed.
- Same account state: Note whether the store was viewed while signed in, signed out, or with a subscription status reported.
- Same baseline: Distinguish a regular retail price from a sale price or a logged-out listing.
Even a carefully matched comparison can establish that displayed offers differed without showing why they differed or how many customers received each offer.

What Sony has and has not confirmed
Sony’s FY2025 Form 20-F says the company aims to increase revenue and profits from PS Plus and maximize average revenue per user on the PlayStation Store, among other business goals. That is official corporate strategy context, but it does not confirm or explain the reported account-segment game-price test. Sony FY2025 Form 20-F.
Sony separately announced recommended retail price increases for PS5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal in listed territories, effective April 2, 2026. Those were hardware price changes, not confirmation of a PlayStation Store game-pricing experiment. Sony’s March 27, 2026 hardware pricing announcement.
