Space Marine 2’s first major update, Patch 4.0, arrived on 17 October 2024. It added Termination, a new Operations mission on Kadaku, and Lethal, a tougher Operations difficulty with stricter survival rules. The update also brought solo photo mode and gameplay balance changes. These are the update’s launch-era details; they do not establish how the live game works in October 2026.
What did Space Marine 2’s first major update add?
Patch 4.0 introduced the Termination Operation and Lethal difficulty, alongside photo mode for Operations and balance changes that included adjustments to melee weapon parry timing. Focus Entertainment described the first major update’s content as free for all players in its 15 October 2024 post-launch overview; its 31 October community update confirmed the content had released.
What is the Termination Operation?
Termination is a new Operation—a co-operative mission, rather than a separate PvP multiplayer map—set on the planet Kadaku. The official Patch 4.0 notes, published 17 October 2024, direct players to use artillery against the new enemies: “This new Operation takes place on planet Kadaku. New dreadful foes have arrived. Make good use of the artillery to annihilate them.”
How did Lethal difficulty work in Patch 4.0?
Lethal was added as a higher difficulty for Operations. Patch 4.0’s announced rules made survival more demanding in three ways:

How did Patch 4.1 respond to feedback?
Six days after Patch 4.0, the developers published Patch 4.1 on 23 October 2024. In its patch notes and Game Director commentary, the team said it had monitored player feedback, acknowledged criticism of difficulty adjustments—including the proximity requirement—and addressed the restrictive proximity rules. It also said it would keep monitoring whether Lethal felt challenging and rewarding.

Saber Interactive Game Director Dmitry Grigorenko summed up the feedback lesson: “The key takeaway for me, personally, is that I forgot that once the game comes out, it’s no longer a dev’s game. It’s yours first and foremost.”
What else was included?
Patch 4.0 added photo mode to Operations, with the notes specifying that it was available only in solo play. The update also included gameplay balance adjustments, among them changes to melee weapon parry timing; its scope therefore went beyond the new mission and difficulty.
