If the transfer objective will not advance, first identify which step is stuck: Bethesda’s January 30, 2024 update specifically fixed a failure to start data transfer after placing the Data Core, while docking and recording-objective problems have different reported remedies.
Eye of the Storm walkthrough
Delgado gives you Eye of the Storm after Absolute Power. Burden of Proof runs concurrently, and Legacy’s End follows it, according to Bethesda’s mission listing. The route below follows a third-party walkthrough; check your journal for the active objective, since labels can vary with game state.
- Speak with Delgado to begin the mission.
- Install the ComSpike Module and Conduction Grid Module on your ship.
- Proceed to the UC Vigilance, then travel to Bannoc IV and the Legacy.
- Locate a Transfer Module and the Vault Control Center.
- Retrieve Jasper Kryx’s possessions and audio recording.
- Insert the Transfer Modules and Data Core, then activate the controls to start the transfer.
- When prompted after the transfer completes, remove the modules and Data Core.
- Escape the Legacy and take Kryx’s Legacy to either the UC Vigilance or the Key.
This route is based on Game8’s walkthrough. If you are following a recording-related objective, see the recording workaround below before interacting with another tape.
Fix the transfer objective that will not start
Bethesda’s Starfield Update 1.9.51.0 notes, dated January 30, 2024, say: “Eye of the Storm: Fixed an issue that could cause data transfer to not start after placing the Data Core.” This documents a fix for that specific failure; it does not establish that every platform build includes it or that an already-stuck save will recover automatically.

- Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits
- Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets
- Pilot and command the ship of your dreams.
If the transfer still does not begin, try Bethesda’s general mission troubleshooting steps. They are not a guarantee for this quest, so start with actions that do not roll back progress:
- Leave the affected area and return. If appropriate, enter an instanced area and leave it again to refresh the location.
- If an NPC is blocking progress, wait 72 in-game hours; Bethesda lists this as a way to reset NPC behavior, not as a fix for a mechanical transfer failure.
- Explore or complete another activity, then return to the objective.
- Quit the game fully and restart it; if needed, reboot the system.
- If you use mods, remove them and check whether the issue persists.
- Verify the game files using the options available for your platform.
- If those steps fail, load an earlier save from before entering the affected area. This may cost progress, so choose a save deliberately.
These steps come from Bethesda’s general mission troubleshooting guidance; the page does not say they resolve every Eye of the Storm stall.

If the Legacy docking option is missing
Bethesda’s Spanish-language mission support page reported that some players could not see the Legacy docking option and that the credit-transfer objective could fail during “Wait for the transfer to complete.” Its interim advice was to return to a save from before starting the mission while an update was awaited. The later 1.9.51.0 notes document a data-transfer-start fix, but do not mention the missing docking prompt. Treat these as separate symptoms; the patch note does not establish that it resolves every docking issue.
If Kryx’s recording objective will not advance
Game8 reports a workaround for this objective: play GBLR011, “The Waiting Game,” from beginning to end before selecting another recording. In particular, do not select GBLR013, “Mortem Obire,” while the first tape is still playing. This is third-party guidance, not a Bethesda patch note; Game8 says its team confirmed this behavior, while other community fixes on the page were not independently encountered by the team.

- TELL YOUR STORY - In Starfield the most important story is the one you tell with your character. Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits. Will you be an experienced explorer, a charming diplomat, a stealthy cyber runner, or something else entirely? The choice is yours. Decide who you will be and what you will become.
- EXPLORE OUTER SPACE - Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets. Navigate bustling cities, explore dangerous bases, and traverse wild landscapes. Meet and recruit a memorable cast of characters, join in the adventures of various factions, and embark on quests across the Settled Systems. A new story or experience is always waiting to be discovered.
- CAPTAIN THE SHIP OF YOUR DREAMS - Pilot and command the ship of your dreams. Personalize the look of your ship, modify critical systems including weapons and shields, and assign crew members to provide unique bonuses. In deep space you will engage in high-stakes dogfights, encounter random missions, dock at star stations, and even board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection.
- DISCOVER, COLLECT, BUILD - Explore planets and discover the fauna, flora, and resources needed to craft everything from medicine and food to equipment and weapons. Build outposts and hire a crew to passively extract materials and establish cargo links to transfer resources between them. Invest these raw materials into research projects to unlock unique crafting recipes.
- LOCK AND LOAD - Space can be a dangerous place. A refined combat system gives you the tools to deal with any situation. Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.
Choosing what to try first
- Data Core is placed, but transfer never starts: Bethesda documented a fix for this specific issue in Update 1.9.51.0. If it persists, try area refresh and a restart before reverting to an earlier save.
- Legacy docking option is absent: The cited Bethesda support page offered an earlier-save workaround for this symptom; the later transfer-start note does not address it.
- Recording objective is stuck: Follow Game8’s tape-order workaround and let “The Waiting Game” finish before selecting another recording.
- An NPC is the blocker: Bethesda’s general advice includes waiting 72 in-game hours to reset NPC behavior.
Bethesda’s patch notes do not report how often the transfer bug occurred, and the available guidance does not establish one universal fix for every save or symptom.
